The hotel

Fancourt Hotel is definitely one of South Africa’s premier hotels. Set against a dramatic mountain backdrop, rooms are split between the 150 year old Manor House, which has been completely remodelled to create a boutique hotel and the main hotel, which effortlessly combines modern luxury with traditional elegance. A golf estate – Outeniqua and Montagu 18-hole Golf Courses are two of the finest you’ll encounter – a must for any enthusiast. Meanwhile, those intent on a spot of pampering are also in for a treat. Rituals inspired by the four elements: air, water, fire and earth form the basis of all therapies, ensuring you leave your tranquil surrounds feeling balanced and on top of the world! Dining can be as formal or as casual as you please. There are several restaurants to choose from, including La Cantina, which is ideal for all the family. For that special occasion or just because you want to spoil yourselves, Henry White’s dedicates itself to excellence in the culinary arts – open five days a week, make sure you experience it at least once. When it comes to sightseeing, there’s plenty to do in the surrounding area, including Garden Route excursions, a trip to the stunning Knysna Waterfront and trips into the wilderness to spot the 'Big Five'.

We took the opportunity to spend the weekend there as we were exhibiting at the wine festival. Everything was wonderful, from staff, service, accommodation and location.

My wife and I stayed at Fancourt from 17-22 December 2024. The good: Our room was spacious and luxurious and we slept well. The staff were so friendly and helpful that they can really be commended. We enjoyed the buffet every morning, everything was fresh and the eggs Benedict was our favourite. La Cantina serves very good food and although pricey, our meals were exceptional. My wife rated the spa 10/10 and said she would gladly return. The hotel is a mere 6 km from George Airport making travel a brease. Room for improvement: It is a 5 star hotel and one would expect a certain level of comfort that sadly was sometimes lacking. Although it is a golfer's stay, the rooms take far too long to be cleaned/refreshed and I would strongly advise that more staff be employed in room cleaning. Specifically, our room was only attended to after 14:00 on more than one occasion when one would like to return to your room to relax or nap before the evening. Secondly, there is no dedicated walkway for guests, and the paved area is busy with golf carts and the vehicles of guests. One therefore has to keep your wits about you when walking between your vehicle and the room or from the room to the restaurants. Save for these two issues we would gladly return to Fancourt. We had the most wonderful stay, this was a holiday just like we dreamed of! History, wonderful accomodation, great staff (which wasn`t getting on our nerves, just the right amount of attention). We can only recommend this wonderful Manor House!

Reception and housekeeping staff extremely courteous and very friendly. Breakfast restaurant was beautiful and service was top notch. Great variety and healthy varried option. Unfortunately rooms fall far below standard for premier pricing. Strange odour in room corridor. Dark dingy foyer in front of our room. There was no light on and we were told its day light savings. Rooms a bit tired. Grey carpets. Furnishings had chipped paints. Beds and pillows were very comfortable. Bathroom had all needed ammentities but definitely not 5 star standard. I think for premier dollar you paying, they have to do a major upgrade of rooms. Read less

Our Homewood suites at the Manor House were impeccable, The rooms had everything. Heated floors, bedside charging stations, deep soaking tub with all variety of scrubs and bubbles, lovely closets and dressing table, a concierge hallway with decanters of various libations, coffees, teas - I could go on and on. We (two couples) travel extensively and stay in some pretty nice places around teh world - but this place wins! If you asked where someplace was - the answer was "let me take you there". The staff greeted us by name upon arrival and throughout our five night stay. I cant comment on the Fancourt Hotel because we only used the spa and teh restaurants there, but i recommend you upgrade and experience teh Manor House at least once! Read less
