The hotel

One of Toronto’s landmark hotels, Fairmont Royal York was built by Canadian Pacific Railway in 1929 and has since welcomed dignitaries and royalty, including Queen Elizabeth II. Once the tallest building in the British Empire, the hotel is housed in a distinctive chateau-style high-rise building and offers a wealth of amenities to keep you busy in-between sightseeing. The fitness centre is almost a world of its own with lap pool, children’s wading pool, steam rooms, saunas and a state-of-the-art gym. Two levels of shops are enough to satisfy the most ardent of shoppers with more shops located directly underneath the hotel in the PATH complex. Several exceptional restaurants cater to every kind of culinary desire. For mouth-watering steaks, look no further than Benihana Japanese Steakhouse and for the best martinis in town, head to the Library Bar with its rich furnishings and elegant atmosphere. Not to be missed is the afternoon tea and Rooftop Garden Tour, held every Saturday and Sunday.

Great service. Clean hotel. Nice room. When checking in we met Dhawal who was very pleasant and helpful. The hotel was close to downtown attractions and experiences. Other staff friendly and willing to help. We went to the self parking recommended by the hotel and it was fairly easy to find and attached right to the hotel.

Upon arrival you're warmly greeted at the door and at the desk. The front desk agent was helpful in directing me to the both the elevators and one of the restaurants I asked about. This was in December and the hotel was well decorated throughout for the Christmas season. One of the best that I've seen in recent years. Others would put up a small tree and few lights but the Royal York took time and paid attention to detail. The hotel is well kept for an almost 100-year-old hotel and show almost no signs of wearing. The room was a newly renovated Luxury Room and it did not disappoint. Again, great attention to detail in the room and what you would expect from a luxury room. The Gold Lounge may be one of the best I've seen. From the food and drink choices, to the layout and decor along with the terrific staff, it's an easy 10/10 across the board. Well done. The staff is truly what makes this hotel stand out to me and I would infidelity return. It's now in my top 5 for hotels in Toronto. Read less
