Antigua is beautiful and the beach and snorkeling at Royalton is beautiful. However... we arrived 3 hours late due to a delayed flight and were told our room still was not ready for check-in. The housekeeping is poor - the rooms are not cleaned on a daily basis and we continually had to ask for towels. Sometimes they would take all the towels and not replace them. Getting a lounger on the beach is chaotic - it says that lounger reservation is not permitted but you get to the beach and there are towels with random sliders etc on them which people have used to reserve sun loungers. The staff should really remove these so that there is no conflict between guests. Most of the staff really aren't very welcoming unfortunately - it really does feel like the staff are not happy and I understand the staff went on strike a couple of weeks ago. I'm afraid as a guest you are made to feel as though you are an inconvenience. Booking restaurants is very difficult and the restaurants really aren't great - definitely not 5 star. If you can't get into a specialty restaurant - you go to the buffet. You have to queue to get a table and if you ask to sit outside there's often a lot of eye-rolling and we were told on a number of occasions that we would have to wait and were made to feel quite awkward. The location is lovely but the hotel feels pretty tired and there is clearly an unresolved issue between staff and management and this is impacting negatively on customers. The evening entertainment was pretty lacklustre and the whole place feels a bit soulless. In summary this is definitely not a 5 star resort and we wouldn't return unless things dramatically improved. We paid for Diamond Club and it was well worth it. Communication with our Butlers was through WhatsApp and it was extremely effective. Sharlene and Maxwell were our Butlers. They exceeded our expectations. Response times were in minutes, it was like having them right by our side. Our dinning was pre set as requested, our additional events were scheduled on time and our requests were all satisfied. Good job Royalton Sharlene and Maxwell live beyond the customer service culture you advertise. In addition the bar staff and waiting staff were consistent and delivered service with a smile. There was nightly entertainment for the Family and always food/snacks and drinks available. Room service was impressive for an All-Inclusive. The Gym was open and in good condition. Not sure why the negative reviews but I am guessing that some people will always have something negative to say. Pack some patience and be in vacation mode and you will be fine. Definitely would recommend this resort. It’s safe, clean, and accommodating. Entertainment staff made you feel welcomed and included. Royalton you have some very good staff at the Resort. I know it is a competitive industry but top class service sells especially when your paying Royalton prices. Keep employing the right people and you will have happy customers and good reviews. We were told that there was a strike the week before we arrived, which makes sense based on the level of service that we experienced. Everyone that works here is so unhappy and mad to be here working it made everyone very uncomfortable. Mary at Gratzi was probably the worst that we encountered- everyone that we spoke to that was staying the week we were there had the same experience. Do not vacation here. Read less

I can promise that if you visit this hotel you’ll be disappointed. The floor was so grimy and greasy you can’t walk from the shower to your bed without your feet being covered in bits and dirt. The rooms smell of mould , the food is always slightly warm served on cold plates. Don’t expect a smile or any kind of service. There’s so much more I could say ….. the only saving grace here is the entertainment staff they’re a credit to the hotel in particular Maliki and Richard not forgetting J Quan the most upbeat positive friendly guy you could meet. We’ve loved Antigua but honestly do not stay at this resort you’ll regret it. Read less

On arrival we was greeted with refreshments and taken to reception to book in. We had everything explained to us and fitted with room key bracelet (if lost there is a 100$ replacement charge) paid the holding deposit and local taxes of 100$ each. We were taking to our room and upon entry everything was clean and well equipped with sofa, dressing table, safe, fridge, shes, robes etc. NO KETTLE just a coffee machine, tea bags with powered milk. Buffett and restaurant The main buffet is an epic letdown. Food choice was utterly rubbish, no choice no taste and about Luke warm. After a few days I was dreading meal times. Morning there was meat and fish stews!!! Boiled Bananas and items I wouldn’t class as a breakfast or able describe but other cultures might well disagree. Few yogurts pots and cheese and croissants, rolls and fruit. As I’m from England this is for English review. There was the usual omelette station. Burger station with some sort of white looking meat. Again of an evening was pizzas station every night and stews and yet curries again which I prefer to eat a meal and not have to pick meat from bones for a few morsels of meat. No Themed meal nights a real missed opportunity. The hotel has a few pre-book restaurants, we did the Caribbean and hunters steak house. The steak house was by far the best as the Caribbean restaurant was a bit of let down and we expected something more wow. Entertainment Again massive let down, no enough seating and if your at the back you can’t see anything, a JD played music over the staff doing some sort of entertaining, for a hour, no one from outside brought in to lay on a show. There is only 2 places for entertainment 50 seats for 100’s or guests by reception or on the beach. Grounds. Coffee shop to relax and 1 bar at the reception area with entertainment stage and cover, and one on the beach with swim up. (same as 2 shops selling gifts, clothing etc) The pool was colder than the sea. Where it takes your breath away. Free Kayak and jet ski’s at 400$ for 2 hours about 120£ at time of exchange rate. Small kids pool with slide (didn’t see anyone using in it) table football and basket ball machine with a chess set with black/white tiles laid on the grass. Overall I loved the location, beach area. loved the room but entertainment and food was the biggest let down. I have been to cheaper hotels and been blown away by the entertainment and food choice and would I honestly rather had return to them for the money we paid 4K for 10 days I feel it was not value for money. Overall I would rate it as as high as 4* choose wisely before booking if you want a boring nothing to do you’ll be ok. But I wouldn’t be coming back to this hotel or chain again. I’m going back to turkey sensatori in 2025 ! Read less
