The hotel

This modern resort is split into two hotels and occupies 300 ft of south coast beachfront. It doesn't matter which hotel you stay in, as you are free to use the facilities at both. This means you can enjoy two swimming pools, an oceanfront restaurant and, of course, a selection of complimentary non-motorised water sports along the lovely white sand beach. Coral Mist and Blue Orchids Hotels have the added advantage of being only a 5-minute drive from the shops, bars and restaurants of the lively St Lawrence Gap.

2 adults, a 5-year old and a 10-month old baby. This was the first place we stayed at in Barbados and it left a good impression overall. We arrived early in the evening, exhausted after our flight from Europe and were welcomed by Teesha, who was very friendly, approachable and helpful throughout our trip. We stayed in 3 different types of rooms (opting to extend or stay for 5 days, with Teesha's help: * 2 bedroom (by far the most comfortable) * the penthouse (spacious but I'm glad we didn't pay extra for it) * 1 -bedroom (decent.) Here's what we liked: * The location is as good as it gets - right on the beach, you'll be swooshed to sleep by the waves here. * 2 swimming pools (one at the adjacent Blue Orchid Hotel that guests are allowed to use. * Some staff such as Teesha (reception,) and the security lady - (her name escapes me but we had some wonderful conversations on my frequent walks around the premises with my children) give the place a special aura. * Worthing Beach was probably the most relaxing beach we visited in Barbados - no one trying to sell you things, no jetskis nor glass bottom boat hustlers - just a great place for my children to savour their first taste of the caribbean. Here's what can be improved: * The gym: as it's not allowed to open the windows in the gym, you can imagine how hot a training session gets there (actually not the main issue as I'm fine with a bit of intensity - the stale air is what really got to me * Not all staff members are at the level of Teesha and some of the other folks - an opportunity for improvement as the place has everything going for it, location-wise, to make it a 5-star experience * Some of the building could do with a lick of paint - we saw a painter working on it but it appeared to take an eternity to paint one wall, so at this rate, most of it will have chipped off before he's done. In conclusion, this was a memorable stay but it also depends how you're wired - if you're expecting a 5-star experience, this is not - expect a few quirks here and there but overall you can also expect an enjoyable stay. We are staying in the 2 bedroom apartment which has a big living area, big bedrooms and two bathrooms. Fantastic air conditioning. Really clean and the cleaners come every day. Views are spectacular. All the staff are friendly and helpful and will arrange taxis and tours. Plenty of beach beds on the quiet golden sandy beach. Would highly recommend.

We have been here four times to participate in the Barbados Open Water Swim Festival, a gathering of 400 swimmers who enjoy the beautiful water around Barbados, the suite with a kitchen is perfect to have breakfast and to prepare snacks. The room is well laid out and we love the porch. It’s right on the beach, although a streak of rough seas kept us from swimming any distance. However, there are a lot of minor annoyances. We reserved a specific room a year ago. It was not available and we had to wait an hour past check-in time for a fourth floor room away from our friend’s room. The fourth floor would have been ok except the elevator broke the second day we were there. They did not have beach towels for us, as they ran out while we were waiting for our room. The hot water never got past tepid. The light in the kitchen was so pale we could barely see. Floor tiles were cracked. When it rained the hallway filled with water and got very slick. Despite all this we booked for next year. Read less
