Image of the Tripadvisor rating Great value hotel with freshly cooked breakfast!

Dec 24, 2024 Trish H

I felt compelled to review after seeing some of the negative reviews. This is a great value hotel! Not sure who would complain about freshly cooked breakfast that varies daily! They will cook omelette and poached or fried eggs! Lovely fresh plantain and hash one day! Second day fresh carrot bakes. Scrambled eggs, plentiful toast and coffee, juice,… Read more

They will cook omelette and poached or fried eggs! Lovely fresh plantain and hash one day! Second day fresh carrot bakes. Scrambled eggs, plentiful toast and coffee, juice, water and coffee! Everywhere clean! Air con working well! Smart TV and option to sign into your Netflix or Prime! Large bathroom with bath and shower! Large balcony! We were in the deluxe room! Pool looked nice we haven't been in yet! Amazing beach opposite! Agree the ZX buses go fast but this is all part of the culture of Barbados and I love it! If you want other transport get a taxi or one of the bigger yellow buses! Or everywhere is walkable with plenty of bars for refreshments along the way! I always feel safe in Barbados and yes there are people selling stuff but you can politely decline and they take no offence! Read less

The hotel pool was a good size. Food was lovely with big portions & enough variety, especially the cooked breakfast. We loved the saltfish , corned beef with onions & the carrot bakes. Plus all the muffins, eggs, toast, tea, coffee & juice you can handle. Very close to the bus stop / route to 'Town' one way or Oistns in other direction. Despite what some people say, I wouldn't say it was particularly expensive. We bought many creature comforts, treats & drink from a branch of , island-wide, supermarket called 'Massy'. Read less

AVOID AVOID AVOID Positives - Great location; close to Oistins and Saint Lawrence Gap Negatives - Staff are incompetent and lazy. We stayed for 3 days and house keeping didn't change the bedding, remove dirty/replace glasses in room, have to beg for fresh towels, don't clean the bathroom. Staff also have constant attitude and sour faces when asked anything. Hostile environment. Roll eyes and kiss their teeth. - The hotel is tired, dirty and run down. The restaurant area isn't even fit to be called a restaurant. The breakfast is basic at best and staff don't efficiently clear away or clean tables. Toaster at breakfast broke and the waitress just walked off. Not interested in helping. The 'bar' is more of a shack, that has leaking fridges and towels on the floor. Not clean or hygienic. Whether you're going to get a adequate quality drink is hit & miss depending on who is serving. I don't think they are bartenders, more like kids. - --Another hotel guest at breakfast told us had asked her holiday provider to move her to a different hotel as she had seen mice. - The poolside isn't fit to be called a poolside. The area looks tired and jaded. Sun loungers are broken/mouldy, grass not mown, so you get bit sitting out there. Better off going to the beach. - We were asked to leave the hotel on day 3 out of 7 for leaving an honest review of the hotel. Staff are bullies and shouldn't work in a customer facing role. Hotel thought they were spiting us, but it worked in our favour as we went to a beautiful 5* hotel. - This establishment is hostel and not a hotel as the amenities are basic and the type of clientele in there. - Wifi only works in the lobby If you're looking for a good quality hotel, do not stay at this dump. It needs closing down and the staff going along with it as their sole intention is to provide a miserable, dreary time. Read less

We stayed as a group at this hotel and had a wonderful experience overall. The reception team was exceptional ; always smiling and welcoming, regardless of the time, whether late at night or early in the morning. The housekeeping staff also did an excellent job in maintaining cleanliness and tidiness throughout the hotel. The hotel itself is well-equipped, although some rooms offered amenities like kettles and tea cups, while others did not. However, this wasn’t a major issue for us. The swimming pool is fantastic! It features comfortable lounge chairs, showers, and areas for reading, picnicking, or simply gathering with friends. In conclusion, this hotel truly deserves its 3-star rating. It is located just a one-minute walk from a beautiful white-sand beach and is close to several bars and a bus stop perfect for those without a car! Major downside: ⚠️‼️ The hotel restaurant. The restaurant staff was unprofessional and unfriendly, never smiling or responding properly to requests. As a tourism professional myself, I was shocked by the lack of professionalism, especially from certain individuals like Desiree. The breakfast experience, in particular, is a crucial part of the tourist journey, and this level of carelessness and lack of hospitality left a negative impression. Employees like Desiree, with their indifference and lack of a welcoming attitude, do not belong in the tourism industry. Such behavior significantly detracts from the overall travel experience. That being said, the breakfast itself was decent, offering both savory and sweet options, with the possibility of refills. A big thank you to the SunBay Hotel team for your warm hospitality. Despite the issues with the restaurant staff, the hotel contributed positively to our overall experience. Visit Barbados—it’s worth it! Read less
