And they could've definitely did better in the buffet I think out of 7 days I was served a drink once out of all meals most of the workers were kind and friendly
The cons
The beach is shallow and lots of seaweed so bring shoes
The nightly entertainment was terrible I'm coming to jamaica to see n feel the culture not listen to oldies that put me to sleep only show that was a 5* was the steel drums
The pools close at 6 which i think is terrible wen u have to peel kids out when they aren't wanting to leave
The lines for food at the huts where huge on busy days maybe some more helpers would help pick up the pace
Would I be back ? Definitely with my kids but definitely not to have a girls trip hopefully they fix the lil things cus if it weren't for that I'd give this place a solid 5*
Oh and the cats we love the cats !!

We recently spent two weeks at Catalonia Montego Bay. It was a short shuttle ride from the airport. Check-in was efficient and we got to our room quickly. The room was clean and basic, nothing fancy here. The bed and pillows were super comfortable. Air conditioning worked well and was very quiet. The bathroom was very small and hot water was hit and miss. The safe didn't work at first, but maintenance came quickly and fixed it. There was a fridge but we only got one large bottle of water per day, nothing else. Pop, water, etc. was readily available in the lobby. Our maid kept the room tidy.
The facility needs some upgrading which I'm sure will happen soon. There were a number of seating areas, but most of the furniture was worn out and very uncomfortable. The grounds keepers kept everything looking beautiful and worked very hard, especially when there was a wind storm which blew in a considerable amount of seaweed.
The beach is very nice, however it was difficult to get a chair in the shade. More palapas would be nice. There were usually towels available and Camile was super friendly. You could also take out a kayak or paddle board which we did a couple of times. We went snorkeling several times. When it was a calm day the snorkeling was mediocre. Around the far pier there were a large number of fish including sergeant majors, puffer fish, barracudas, lion fish and lots more. On a windy day which was most days the water was murky. The best time to snorkel was in the morning.
Entertainment in the evenings was average, certainly not the caliber of other resorts we've been to.
If we had one major complaint it would be the cats. When our daughter was there last year when it was Holiday Inn there were only a few cats. But in the last year there seems to have been a population explosion. There's maybe a reason they call it CATalonia. There were several that were injured and on more than one night we were kept awake with their yowling. When we talked to management they said there was nothing they could do about it. Unfortunately cats do their business in sand or dirt and we saw several doing this on the beach. I don't think I would like my kids playing in the play area which is mostly sand.
There was one large buffet area which didn't seem large enough for the number of people at the resort. We were usually there when it opened so didn't have trouble getting a table. The food was basic, but not spectacular. There were salad fixings and fruit every meal plus various dishes and grilled meat. We went to each of the a la cartes. The food was average but it was nice to have a quieter dining experience. The Japanese was our favorite.
We took advantage of the tennis/pickleball courts and the gym. There was also a mini golf course we did a couple of times. Unfortunately there was no beach volleyball, but that wasn't the staff's fault. Claudius and Terry were very helpful and friendly. Great job guys.
