My family (myself, wife, 3 kids) stayed here with another family of 5 during the week after Christmas. We had an enjoyable week overall. Some things about the Jewel Grande are fantastic, but there were also a lot of minor frustrations. Those minor frustrations in total, plus a frustrating post-visit experience, leads me to the 3 stars instead of 4. First, some of the good things. The rooms were spacious and clean (2 BR butler suite) - very satisfied. Entertainment and activities were great - the nightly shows (and especially the new year's eve event) were beyond expectations...our whole family enjoyed them. Both pools were very nice and the beach was great...we spent time at all of them. And the watersports was great - super easy to take out kayaks or paddleboards. Minor frustrations - I'll give a few examples. One of two elevators in our building was out of service for the entire week...not a big deal for a day or two, but pretty annoying for the entire week (often had to wait awhile). One day the second elevator was down as well. The main lobby bathroom had maybe 8 toilets but most days only 1-2 were operable (due to others being out of service). Most mornings when we arrived at the beach we'd find some empty cups and trash still laying around from the prior day/night. There were a bunch of things like these...none of them a big deal by itself, but over the course of the week they add up to produce a vibe of things always being just a little amiss. Finally - one more notable frustration. This might be a one-off unique to me, but it is perhaps reflective of the unevenness of service. Prior to our arrival we reserved two beach cabanas for one day of our stay. Upon arrival we decided to cancel the cabana reservation - we canceled through our butlers and were told no problem. However, after our trip we noticed that our credit card was unfortunately still charged for the cabana rentals. We followed up with our butlers and they apologized and said a refund would be issued. But...that never happened. I've since emailed the resort two separate times asking for the refund to be issued....and I've received zero response. If you are ok to deal with some minor annoyances and maybe some customer service issues during (and after!) your stay, it is a solid place. If you'd rather not risk the hassle and frustration of the issues and uneven service, I'd take a chance on somewhere else. Read less

We were looking for a relaxing week and that’s exactly what we got. We were in a partial ocean view one bedroom suite on the 8th floor of Bldg A. It seems to be the quietest of the buildings and that suited us just fine. We could hear the nightly entertainment that takes place in the area between B and C Bldgs, but everything quiets down at 9:30. The room was spacious, the bed was comfortable, the fridge and coffee station were stocked daily and the in suite washer and dryer were not expected, but we did make use of them. The service, from the moment we hopped off our shuttle, was excellent. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. The entire staff is amazing, we had lovely interactions with everyone from the resort that we encountered. The gentleman who had most recently lived in Chicago before returning to Jamaica and works at the Cricket Grill in the daytime was especially delightful and we’d certainly come back just to catch up with him. The food was amazing, full stop! We enjoyed wings, tacos, pizza, pasta, steaks, hibatchi, snapper, risotto, and amazing breakfasts, but what I especially loved was trying the curried goat, oxtail, ackee & salt fish, jerk chicken, red pea & beef soup, bammy, festival and of course the patties. The variety of options is sure to please everyone. My only wish would be that the beach was more swimable. I love long beach walks and floating the days away in the warm Caribbean waters, but that is not to be found here. It’s a great spot for sunbathing and for those with little kids who just splash around at the shoreline, but the seaweed and sea grass were a disappointment. As I said, we were seeking R&R, so we didn’t partake in many of the activities, but it does seem there’s lot to do. I would love to return one day with extended family and stay in one of the villas. The short drive from the airport is another plus in my opinion. Read less

An amazing hotel and a great holiday. Friendly staff from the moment we stepped out of the car, always felt like nothing was too much trouble. The hotel was spotlessly clean everywhere we went and all areas. The room was excellent, great size and great amenities, looks like everything was put together without cost in mind. As an example every appliance in the rooms was Bosch, the cooker, hob, washing machine, dryer. All the finishing were great. It was the same throughout the rest of the hotel. The restaurants were all good, enjoyed all the food we had from every restaurant I guess the only issue was the kids club, most of the time there were not may kids there, we booked in several times for different activities the kids wanted to do except on each occasion as there were not many kids there the activities didn’t take place and the kids were left to play with a couple of arcade machines and then left to watch TV, so not fun for the kids at all. Got to the stage that the kids got upset about going whereas normally they’re happy and excited to go to various kids clubs. Basically they just had to sit and watch TV every time we dropped them off Pool service and beach services were excellent. Really every part of our holiday (except the kids club!) was amazing. A great vacation Read less

Booked via VRBO and stayed in 1 bdrm condo with 2 baths. We have always done an all inclusive and thought we would try something a little different. We had all the access to the Jewel Grande. We just paid for our food and drinks. Stayed in bldg B second floor. Review is based on resort not condo. Staff were excellent. Check in very seamless and loved that it was not far from the airport. Stopped at a grocery store to stock up. Accessibility warning! This resort has a ton of stairs. Be prepared! This is our sixth time to Jamaica and we have always found that we could snorkel right off the beach. This resort has a very limited beach area and the water is extremely shallow. We had no issues finding beach chairs under some shade on the beach every day. We didn’t show up until after 10 each day and there were always your classic beach chair savers but somehow we got lucky. I think we also picked a somewhat quiet week. There is a ton of shade because of the large buildings. Unless you are a 5 year old do not even plan on packing your snorkel gear unless you go off the resort on an excursion. Contrary to some reviews staff were raking up the sea grass washing up on shore. Sadly they also had to deal with the garbage washing up all long the beach. We spent zero time at the pool. Service along the beach was good. Tip these girls they work hard. Take the complimentary Hobie out each day. Tip the guys who take you out. They work hard. It’s a beautiful way to see the resort. The resort is quite spread out. Again many many stairs. We golfed at Cinnamon Hill one day which was great. Restaurants were all pretty good. Staff excellent. Food good. Definitely not cheap if you aren’t on the AI plan. The resort was a mix of everything. Families, girl trips, couples and wedding groups. There was entertainment every night if you wanted to partake. Very loud especially if you are in B or C building but it was done by 9:30 ish. There did seem to be ongoing maintenance all over the resort. The grounds were beautiful. I would say it does seem a little tired. Bldg B only one elevator was operating all week. We would not go back because of the beach and shallow water. Read less

Our room in the C building had a fabulous view and at arrival we had a bottle of bubbly and chocolates to highlight our 50th wedding anniversary. Pools are clean, albeit cold. The food is great and you are guaranteed to never go hungry. The coffee shop/ice cream parlour was open from 6;30 am to 10:30 pm and they served coffee, sandwiches, pastries and ice cream. All was delicious. The breakfast buffet was complete and all restaurants were enjoyable. Service from the heart is what puts this resort on the top of my experiences. Thanks so much to Shamara, our breakfast hostess, Kevoy, our master omelet maker, Stephanie who we saw at breakfast, both pools, and on the beach. She was everywhere. And Andre, our bellman, who explained many features of the hotel and our room. All of the staff here are amazing. Everyone made us feel welcome and comfortable. Kudos to the show put on by our Hibachi master. She was so fun and talented. We travelled with my son and his girlfriend and it was a wonderful vacation from start to finish. Thanks Jewel Grande!
