Sandals Doesn't Care

Just spent a week at Sandals Dunns River with my wife. My 13th trip to Sandals. We booked a Oceanfront 1 Bedroom Suite. Called Sandals about 10 days before our arrival and asked if we could be on a high floor. When we arrived they put us on the 2nd from bottom floor apparently due availability. A couple of days into our vacation we met a couple and they were in the room a floor directly above us. They arrived the same day and about the same time we did. They didn’t ask for a specific room. They don’t care. Second time this has happened to us. A few years earlier we went to Sandals Montego Bay. When we booked we asked for any room as long as it was not on the 1st/ground floor. We got a 1st/ground floor room. Problems with A/C. Couldn’t get the room temperature below 72* for the first few days. Like to keep it about 68* otherwise we find it hard to sleep. Food was the worst food we have had at Sandals. Day 1. Sushi Restaurant. Worst Sushi I have ever had. 1 out of 10. Day 2. Latin Fusion. Tasteless dried out meat and chicken. 2 out of 10. Day 3. French. Wife’s Lamb pretty good. My Chicken Cordon Bleu awful. 3 out of 10. Day 4 . Italian Best restaurant there. Ate there rest of the vacation. 8 out of 10. Would have been higher but they had no fresh basil. Unheard of for an Italian Restaurant. You need to start a small produce farm in Jamaica for herbs and such you have about 10 hotels you own. There is a hotel on the Riviera Maya in Mexico that does that. Grow their own fresh produce. Other restaurants we tried. Jerk Shack, just OK. 5 out of 10. Main dining area for Breakfast and Lunch good. 8 out of 10. We know the food at Sandals is Average, we don’t go there for the food. Sandals D/R was really Bad. THE GOOD. The Staff were excellent, not one bad person. Special callout to our Butlers Stanford and Kimika. Salvatore the Manager, Massimo the Chef and Tijean the Waiter at the Italian Restaurant went above and beyond to make our culinary experience better. Thank You. There were other members of staff that dealt with us that were great whose names I can’t remember. Thank You. The Hotel and Grounds are beautiful. Beach is great. Still fond of Sandals but are going back to Sandals Royal Caribbean next December 2025. Our 2nd Favorite. Our favorite was Emerald Bay but they closed it. Sorry Guys if I don’t tell you what’s wrong you are not going to be able to fix it. Read less

First trip to Sandals Dunn's River

Really nice new property. Food and service were outstanding! Loved the french onion soup and our meals at L'Amande. The jerk chicken fries from Galene were amazing. We had them every single day. Weather was disappointing but no fault of the resort. At least one of the pools should be heated though as they were very cold on days the sun was not out all day which unfortunately happened on 3 full days there. No heat in the pool made it too cold to swim and no one could enjoy the pools those days. It was also way too windy to enjoy the beach those days unfortunately as well. Golf Shuttle - Would really like to see more times and options. We enjoyed the 6:45 shuttle out but had to rush to be done by the 10 am return. Also was not able to get breakfast before the 6:45 shuttle. If we waited for the 8:45 shuttle then rush for the 12, we lost more time out of the day. The shuttle times are just not ideal and there should be more frequent options. Ochi Shuttle - Same as golf - There should be more shuttles besides just a 6:30 to Ochi and 10 pm shuttle back to Dunn's. That does not match the exchange privileges advertised. There should be shuttles multiple times throughout the day. Enjoyed our Travertine Beachfront (TB) club level room and view. It is really nice to have the small nicer unopened bottles of liquor instead of the large ones with a pour. I won't touch already opened bottles of liquor in a room but it was nice to have small sealed bottles instead. Loved our room and view but it was noisy at night with entertainment and shows below. Club lounge was great and made dinner reservations with no issues. We enjoyed that Loyalty and Travel could book trips so much quicker on the ipad than previous trips of having to sign multiple copies of paperwork. We were able to book to return within 5 minutes. I will book a lot more trips if other resorts quicken up the process like that. Overall great new property and can't wait to go back! Read less

Sandals Dunns River Great Trip

The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Our room was on the 3rd floor of the Mammee Bay building overlooking the pools. The room is spacious and the bed was comfortable. The view on the backside of the building was another resort next door and the back of the Mammee Bay buidling and air conditioning ducts. Always had timely turn down service and fresh towels whenever needed. The fridge was restocked daily. All of the night time restaurants were very good. We mad a reservations at L'Amande (French Restaurant) the first night and it did not disappoint. The second night we ate Edessa (Greek), third night Zuka (Asian Fusion) and fourth night Cascate (Italian). All of the nighttime restaurants were excellent. I ate breakfast two mornings at Edessa (Greek). The food was very good, but the service was slow. We also were club level, so we had room service delivered on the days we had excursions. For lunch, we ate numerous meals at the Jerk Shack. Jerk Shack was very good, best jerk chicken, pork, sausage, and fish in foil. We ate lunch one time at Saltaire, there was a good selection of food, soups, & salads. It was OK. The BLUM coffee shop was great. Many different coffees (16 types), pastries, cakes, ice cream, etc. and open from 6am to 10pm. The vanilla ice cream with expresso was excellent. We were club level, so we had a wine tasting on Wednesday and a Cocktail Party on Thursday that were both very good. There is also a martini tasting on Mondays. The nighttime entertainment was very good. Fire dancers, acrobat, contortionist, illusionist, singers, piano bar sing-a-longs, silent dance parties, and reggae bands. The singers at the resort were very impressive. The silent dance party was a blast. The Rum Bar was awesome. Stayed open to 1 am. Great place to dance, drink, and get a late night snack. Had lots of fun almost every night. Pools and the swim-up bar were nice and clean. Had to get up early to reserve loungers at the swim-up bar pool, though. The butlers would have more than half reserved and most times the people would show up after lunch or not at all. Great bartenders at the swim-up bar! Some of the bars were occasionally staffed with inexperienced bar tenders, while the main bar tenders were on brake. The substitute bar tenders need some training. Water sports are included and are easily accessed. Walk up, sign up, and your are ready. The sailing instructors were very good. Excursions are easily booked through the resort or with the club level concierge. We did a Dunn's River Falls excursion. We were picked up at the resort by a driver that got us in at Dunn's River, stayed at Dunn's River and waited for us to finish. He then, drove us back to the resort. He was very helpful instructing us on where to go and where not to go. The resort is on the smaller side, but not too small. The staff was very friendly and attentive. Overall, we’ll visit again. The service was exceptional the property is amazing,food was top tier with plenty of options also very attentive to all dietary restrictions plenty of vegan options,butler's Ricardo and Dexter made the experience for my wife an I one to remember can't wait to visit again.

We really enjoyed this resort. Friendly staff, wonderful butlers Ricardo and Dexter, fantastic room best in resort rm 2618 Mammee butler level. Fantastic view of the resort and water. Great food and service. Would highly recommend. Jamaica 2.0
