I just returned from a lovely week away at Unico. If I could I would have given my visit a 4.5 star review.
Our room, the general facilities and especially the service we received was absolutely 5*, what brought the scores down was the food.
Like most Hard Rock and Palace resorts, the company spends a fortune on ambiance, fixtures and fittings in their restaurants, but seems to skimp on food quality and cooking expertise. I'd prefer to sacrifice the opulent, luxurious surroundings for better quality, well prepared food.
Some meals were quite good, others not so. Generally speaking, the meat/beef dishes were good, however, we didn't find one restaurant that actually had fresh fish, (most fish we had smelled really fishy) and was overcooked beyond all recognition of being fresh fish, which is almost inconceivable as the resort is surrounded by ocean.
Where fish, and for that case chicken were offered, for the most part they were cooked until all flavor and texture were cooked out of them until they became tough and unchewable. Quite bizarre!
Enough of the food, and getting back to the service. We were pampered beyond belief by our two butlers, Israel and Roger. What was really impressive, is that they really seemed to care that we had an enjoyable stay from their hearts. Making our stay enjoyable, wasn't just a job for them. They were both true professionals who deserve all the best life can give them. Thank you Roger and Israel.
Would I return, yes. However I do hope that Unico really concentrate on the food quality & preparation they offer their guests.

Lovely time at UNICO Hotel

We had a wonderful stay at UNICO hotel. The food is by far the best I’ve ever had in an all inclusive hotel. There were plenty of activities to get involved in and overall the hotel had a classy vibe. The service was excellent and a particular shout out to our guide Maria who was super helpful during our stay.
Not a 5 Star Rating Due to Lack of Customer Service

First for the positive. UNICO is a beautifully designed resort. The lobby, the pools and the rooms are second to none. First for the positive. UNICO is a beautifully designed resort. The lobby, the pools and the rooms are second to none. The food at the restaurants was delicious and the staff was incredibly attentive. We were a group of 35 for my friend's 50th birthday so as the Spanish speaking friend I worked with the hotel to plan a cocktail hour and pool party by renting a couple cabanas. In addition, I wanted to ensure we had group dinner reservations every night. So here is where the challenges started. In order to book cabanas, you work with someone in the Vacation Makers department. Then to make dinner reservations you work with the Pre-Arrival Department. But that person is different from the Pre-Arrival Concierge who helped with the cocktail hour. Even though you work with the concierge, you then need to connect with each vendor who will provide services at the cocktail hour (photographer, florist, lighting, etc). Does it sound complicated and cumbersome? It was. One of the biggest selling points of UNICO was the fact they had a concierge that assists their guests. We were ghosted by the first Pre-Arrival Concierge but Eric Montiel, who was later assigned to us was excellent. The problem is not the staff. It is their system. A guest should have a single point of contact. The concierge should be dealing with the vendors and sending options and quotes as needed. In order to plan a week trip to celebrate a friend's birthday it took about 100 email to get it done. I am not kidding!
The room concierge service was hyped and incredibly underwhelming. If you are assigned Daniela, I suggest asking for another concierge. While other concierges made it a point to greet their guests, we only received texts from Daniela. Also, when my hat that was provided so it can be painted flew off my head and was lost my husband sent a text to Daniela. The response was that she was out and that we would need to go to the concierge and purchase another $6 hat. First of all, seriously? The hat was lost and we are paying $600/night and you can't provide another hat? Secondly, we were out on an excursion. We sent a message letting them know and requested they deliver a hat to the artists. The next day we were checking out and we asked Daniela to deliver our hats to our room. The response was good morning. How are you doing? Nothing about our hats. We went to the concierge desk to pick them up ourselves and the room concierge did not deliver another hat to the artists. So I did not receive a customized painted hat. Instead I was given the option of selecting a hat from the unclaimed pile. Very disappointing. Again, the painted hat is one of the resort highlights.
UNICO also states they will provide shuttle service to the airport. We had our reservation and the driver did not show up. A Vacation Makers representative came outside and spoke to the bellhops and did arrange for another shuttle to come but he never came to apologize for the error. The shuttle arrived 40 minutes late.
For such a high-end resort, they could benefit from improving their processes and some of their staff should receive training on how best to serve their customers. We enjoyed our time with our friends, but UNICO definitely needs to improve their customer service.

Relaxation paradise

Hector was a great host and made sure we were taken care of the whole trip. Being our first time in Cancun, Unico was the perfect place to sit back and relax while taking advantage of all the amenities and eats/drinks. Highly recommend if you want to get some time away from life!

The staff is amazing. Always engaging and friendly. You are greeted by everyone.
Rooms are lovely and the resort is keeping up with maintenance all over the resort. Someone is always painting and pruning keeping everything lovely. Our room was always clean and ready for a nap after a day in the pool. Yes, we were in the pool. They are not heated but that didn't stop us.
Each restaurant has several themed cocktails. Be sure to give "Diego" a try at Mexican spot. The fried shrimp appetizer is not to be missed. We were brave several times and asked our waiters to order for us at each restaurant. Great idea. You will enjoy things you might not select.
Lobby Bar is a gathering spot before and after dinner.
The Agave Couples Massage was GREAT and we will treat ourselves to that again.
Already planning our next two trips back. We are Legendary Club members and do have the help of Israel and Roger as our butlers. They manage to spoil us at every turn.
