The hotel

With panoramic views over Patong Bay, this chic haven is the only hotel in the area to offer a private beach - offering you the upmost relaxation. Enjoy the impressive range of facilities, such as two landscaped swimming pools, water sports in abundance down at the beach and the Breeze Spa, plus some of the finest bars and restaurants around. There’s La Gritta for sumptuous Italian fare beside the sea and Rim Talay comes highly recommended, with live music on selected evenings. For casually romantic drinks over the water, head to the Jetty.

Amari was a great stay, highly recommend. The resort has a ton of amenities to use. The restaurants are delicious. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Golf in reception was especially helpful to us and even giving us recommendations for our next destination.

The hotel and the beach were both great! All the personnel were very helpful. We had a very nice lesson on how to give a Thai massage given by the spa manager, Kwan, at the Chaonang spa. She was very patient and gave extra effort for us to enjoy our experience.

Our stay at Amari was a week of peace at the end of our travels. The layout of the hotel is unusual. Our building, a distance away from the lobby meant we had to use hotel transport to get to & from the lobby to our room. We had a wonderful view out to the bay. The bed was comfortable, room well equipped & lit with good mirrors. There was a safe & a proper hairdryer. Plenty hanging space in the wardrobe. Large TV with limited English channels. Sliding door opened onto a balcony with comfortable chairs. Mosquito screen inside sliding door. There were sunbeds by both the beach & pool. We usually managed to get one even though people were keeping them with towels. Towels were supplied by hotel & were nice & big. Breakfast had a lot of variety although food was often cool & not replenished enough. Of course, the hotel was fully booked so a huge volume of people were going to breakfast each morning. Staff were friendly & helpful although we found it hard to hear them when we phoned reception. Our check out was at 12 so we were very happy to be given access to the Voyager Lounge which was a cool oasis to wait for our transfer in. Great seating, TV, showers - we couldn't ask for more. We did visit a nearby elephant sanctuary & were even given towels to take with us! Even though the Amari is a walk away from the town it is far enough away the hustle & bustle & noise. Read less

We had a package deal for this hotel so the individual value of various parts of the package cannot be determined. It is a rambling resort built on side of a hill overlooking Patong beach, I cannot talk about other rooms but our “room” was a sort of Villa with a view of the beach. Unless you are young and super fit much of the time you need a buggy to get you to and from your room. The villa we had was excellent with a living room and a bedroom. There are several English tv language stations available on TV. Also apparently you can use your own Netflix and other streaming services on their TV. There was no bathtub in the bathroom but as we rarely if ever use a bathtub it wasn’t an issue for us. We normally have showers in preference. Not having a bathtub may be an issue for some people. There is a balcony where you can relax and enjoy the view. The hills make riding the buggy interesting to say the least. The buggy can be a problem for people with mobility issues. Although they have 2 types of buggies, golf cart type and a Jeepney style. The latter is not easy to climb into and has seating for 8 persons, however it was extremely rare to see more than 2 persons in these at any one time. Given these run on petrol, we don’t think these are neither economic nor good for the environment. The golf cart type buggy should be their preferred mode of transportation within the resort. As it is a hilly and big place you need transport all the time, to go to restaurants etc. There are 3 restaurants for breakfast but the most popular requires a decent walk. The breakfast menu is excellent with a variety of dishes available, western style, Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Indian dishes are all available. The breakfast time gets very crowded. Two other breakfast places have limited seating and also limited dishes. Interestingly, the dinner most of the time was either a barbecue buffet or a-la-carte, again with variety of dishes, moderately priced. However, at dinner time the main restaurant is almost empty. There is also an Italian restaurant that we did not use. I believe certain packages allow you to take advantage of afternoon tea and drinks with some canapés at their Clubhouse. The resort is not readily walking distance to the town, especially in the afternoon when it is very hot. They have one way shuttle to the Patong beach area 3 times each afternoon but then you have to find your own way back. The staff are friendly and happy to help but sometimes it is difficult to get the message across on the phone due to language issues. Servicing the room is not always prompt, sometimes it does not happen until 3-4 pm. This needs to be addressed. I suspect because of the layout of the resort it takes the domestic staff a lot of time to get from one place to another. We had to wait over 2 hours to get to our room, although we we were not that early in the day to get to reception upon arrival. Read less
