The first island you’ll hit as you drive through the keys is Key Largo, most famous for it’s watersports with reef snorkelling, diving, and glass bottom boat tours out of John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park as must-do activities. Neighbouring the state park you’ll find Playa Largo set on 14.5 acres of secluded shoreline, providing your own piece of paradise to stay whilst exploring this part of Florida’s famous archipalageo. The private beach is the only thing between you and the sparkling waters of Florida Bay, where you can enjoy a range of watersports right from the hotel as well as venturing out to nearby attractions (of which there are plenty). There is a laid-back feel to the resort, perfectly in keeping with the area, but that doesn’t stop the facilities and service being up to standard. From a beach shack restaurant to a ceviche bar, all tastebuds are catered for, La Marea is a particularly great choice for locally sourced seafood and freshly handmade artisan breads and pizzas. When you’re seeking serenity after all the activity, book in at Ocean Spa where you can try specially formulated scrubs using coffee grounds, sugar, and salt. The top class service doesn’t end when you get to your room, an iPad is on hand to offer on-demand services to ensure your stay is up to scratch.

First time in Key Largo but long time Marriott members. The resort is beautiful, especially the Hammocks. If you want to truly feel like you are whisked away without having to travel too long this is the place to go. It feels like the resorts of Hawaii, tucked away and private. The staff is exceptional and if you have the opportunity to have a personal mixology experience from Matt take it - so worth the $, very informative, delicious and enjoyable. The food was great with a lot of options, the spa was fantastic and the grounds well kept. We will definitely be going back to vacation as this was a short stay for a wedding. The Hammocks were like a get away within a get away - the "bungalow" was beautiful inside, so comfortable and had all the amenities you could want, including room service! But the turn down treats were the best!

View ruined by business conferences
Jan 28, 2025Deb HBellefonte, Pennsylvania
Beautiful resort but we payed over $500 a night for a bay view room. The room overlooks the lawn which they use to host private events. So EVERY night we were there we tried to enjoy our balcony view and we had to listen to business conference bs the entire night. Not a vacation if you're trying to escape work.

We visited Playa Largo for my birthday celebration. It was absolutely fantastic. Huge shout outs and THANK YOU’s to Rebecca, Brianna and Tony who went above and beyond to make our video and my birthday special. The resort itself was great on many levels. We always choose an Autograph Collection hotel for our anniversary trip & they never disappoint! They’re beautiful & the staff is always so eager to make magic happen! They gifted us desserts & wine in our room when we arrived along with a handwritten card with best wishes for us on our 35th wedding anniversary! They even helped me to arrange the singers to surprise my husband with “our song” which is ‘Wonderful Tonight’ by Eric Clapton. Gaby & Milly did an AMAZING job on it! They stayed in constant contact with me to be sure we could make this happen. If you need someone to do a perfect job of performing for you, don’t hesitate to book them! The grounds are gorgeous, the rooms are spectacular, & the sunset views are breathtaking!

Off on the wrong foot

I’ll start be saying that overall Playa Largo is a decent resort. The grounds are lovely and we did manage to enjoy our time there. Our stay got off on the wrong foot unfortunately so it just tainted our experience from the start. We had booked an oceanfront room with a balcony and upon check in were told there was a problem with the air conditioning unit and we were being moved to a room w no balcony and a lovely view of the parking lot. We were definitely disappointed having just arrived to the beautiful Florida Keys from the cold Canadian winter.
Besides that, I’d say the hotel is average on all other accounts. The rooms are clean and beds are comfortable- altho they are looking a bit dated. The line to check in or speak to the front desk is painfully slow. The pools chairs are all taken up by 8am. And of course, drinks, coffee etc are incredibly expensive (many of those things you typically expect when travelling over the holidays). So there’s certainly a lot of room for improvement. Having said that, If not for the bad experience with check in/our room downgrade I would probably consider staying here again
