The hotel

If you’re dreaming of sun, sea, and serious style, then Avani+ Fares Maldives is calling your name. Located in the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll, this place is as Instagram-worthy as it gets. Think pristine beaches, crystal-clear waters, and luxury villas that feel like they’re straight out of a glossy magazine. This isn’t just about lounging (though there’s plenty of that) – it’s about doing things your way. Whether you’re a water sports enthusiast (think kayaking, paddle boarding, and snorkelling with manta rays) or you prefer to keep things zen with some spiritual spa time, you’ve got options. Diving is top-tier here too – the coral reefs around the resort are as vibrant as your holiday pics will be. And for those days when you just want to sit back and sip cocktails by the beach, there's 'Smugglers Shack' - a premier beach bar serving surprise menus of the day, and we hear 'Tribe' is the place to hit at sunset.

This is a fairly new resort on a beautiful Atoll with beautifully designed room where nature is left untouched as much as possible. What made a true difference in our experience is the amazing staff - the most prominent one throughout the stay was Mazin - probably the best host we have had so far on our trips - he greeted us from the moment we arrived and took care of us until we left the island. We were in touch via WhatsApp which was extremely efficient and the response time was incredibly fast (few minutes if not seconds). He is very dedicated, well organised and extremely professional - which was reflected in the service we experienced and very much appreciated by us. Our child also had his birthday while in the resort and Mazin and the staff from the Kids club made it a very memorable event so special thanks to the warm, caring and wonderful Kids club staff (Caroline, Alina, Reza, Aiko) for all the efforts put into making this such a lovely event. At the pool, the service was excellent - especially Anthony (great leadership), Amit, Kori really put so much effort into making us feel comfortable and happy throughout our stay and were very accommodating with our baby. Same applies to the breakfast staff - Mia and Kersty welcomed us warmly every morning and the entire staff at the Ocean Terrace was very warm and accommodating to us with our baby throughout our stay which made it very enjoyable. Last but not least, we would like to thank Aazim, the photographer, for the amazing pictures that he took very patiently (with a screaming baby!) and perfectly edited for us - these are beautiful memories that will cover the walls of our home! All in, the staff made a huge difference and we would like to thank all the Avani staff members for making this stay so memorable with their kindness and care. Read less

When you choose a 5 star hotel with the highest rate (esp high season and NY) you do expect them to be a 5 star one. We got very disappointed with: - daily room cleaning (they forgot twice during our 5 days stay) - poor room condition. We hade a broken leaking pipe in the wc. All they did is they put a towel on it soaking wet for 5 days, the water in the sink never went down too. - beach condition. It never gets cleaned (including huge stones, green parts and bits and f the trees, rough sand and corals parts lying everywhere on the mostly used beach area). There is no safeguards at all nice never seen a one. None. - food. They hide papaya and give out upon request. The most disappointing things were sea plane transfer and mantas trip (250 dollars per person with no guarantee) The seaplane was not exclusively for our atoll and we had to stop over and drop off guests at a different atoll. After that we went by boat (40 minutes) from their atoll to ours. At first we were told it happened due to bad weather. But! N our way back we had the same route. So this hotel promise that we will be taken only by a seaplane is a complete lie. They just share it and spend less. The same with a Manta trip. Guys, they took us to a virtual random place with no mantas there. Although they pretended to do their best to swim and find them by just looking on the water with no special equipment. I’m sure they perfectly know that there is the best and biggest Maldives mantas bay in Baa atoll but their season is until late October. However we weren’t even going to that one. They took us to a middle of nowhere for unreal money. Why give a promise to find them if there are none? Obviously I wouldnt want to pay even 10 dollars for a 45 min trip one way to find a random one manta in a low season. To me this is a very customer unfriendly approach and I felt used most of the times. Expected way better! Read less

From the moment I came through security at the airport until the moment I had to go back through it on my departure I received the most excellent level of service. There was a member of the Avani team waiting for me on arrival who expedited getting me checked in for the seaplane. I was then whisked off to the Avani lounge where I waited approximately an hour for the seaplane with a lovely buffet of food and drink to choose from - their lounge has great views of the seaplanes taking off so if like me you are amazed by these be sure to step on to the balcony and watch them. The island itself is stunning. I’d wanted the ‘middle of nowhere’ feel from the hotel and it did not disappoint. It is only 0.84 miles to walk around the entire island so that gives you an idea of its size and I think the facilities more than accommodate an island of this size. It’s a relatively new hotel and could not fault the rooms and general environment. Housekeeping and maintenance (who are both always incredibly friendly when you see them) work hard to keep everywhere nice. I was on an all inclusive package so made sure to try all of the dining options. The food was always of a very high standard. For me, I found the options in the buffet disappointing. I’m vegetarian, try to be vegan if I can, and the choices were limited - I didn’t want to just eat lettuce. I will say that I didn’t flag this to anyone for fear that they then did just give me salad and I felt obliged to eat it. Luckily I am flexible so made it work, but found the other restaurants to have more options. The staff were amazing. Everyone one was friendly and welcoming. They made you feel important and it was nice to have someone take interest in your day especially as I was travelling on my own. I had an intro lesson to snorkelling with Sham who really put me at ease and gave me some great tips. The gentleman (sorry I can’t remember his name) at the fitness centre went out of his way to tell his colleagues at the spa that I wanted to change my appointment time so that I could do the sound healing workshop - it was those sort of things that made this stay special. Everyone, too many names to remember, made the trip amazing. I used the spa a couple of times and found it to be great and in keeping with the level of service and relaxation that I found everywhere else on the island. The one area that I felt could have been improved was the reception. After a wonderful greeting at the welcome dock we were taken to reception to check in and the whole thing felt a bit clunky. I was left sitting for a while waiting, I’m not sure for what and after a long journey and wearing thick travel clothes this was the last thing I wanted. The checkout experience was also clunky. I was asked to settle my bill the night before, which I did and then requested to be at reception 45 mins prior to my seaplane departure. I then had to just sit and wait in reception for what turned out to be an hour because of a delay to departure, but there was no communication on this. While on the island the team communicate with you via WhatsApp, I can’t decide if I like this or not as it means you have to keep an eye on your phone. The knock on effect though is that the reception team are constantly responding to messages via the WhatsApp on their computer and I feel like some of them have lost the art of actual conversation and interacting with people. On the couple of occasions that I went in to reception I struggled to even get someone to look up from their screen. It’s unfortunate that this was the last experience I had before leaving the island. On arrival at the airport I was chaperoned all the way through to passport control which I thought was a lovely touch and rounded off the trip nicely. I would absolutely stay here again. I only did 3 nights, but wish it had been longer so that I could truly appreciate the relaxation. Read less
