The hotel

Niyama’s twin islands offer up the luxury of choice, from chic serenity on the isle of Chill to the adrenaline and excitement on the isle of Play — or a combination of both as your mood dictates! The resort serves up one of the best dining scenes in the Maldives with no less than seven restaurants, including four unique options: Nest is a one-of-a-kind dining concept in the Maldives featuring four cuisines of Asia, including Teppanyaki, Thai, Chinese and Indonesian; Tribal offers a uniquely authentic cultural experience of African, Central and South American tribal cuisines; Edge provides exclusive overwater dining, accessible by boat, featuring delicate Indian Ocean flavours and fresh local seafood; and, below Edge, Subsix Underwater Playground is hidden out in the ocean and six metres below the waterline. There are also two all-day dining restaurants, two bars, a coffee shop and personalised destination dining options, both on and off shore. If you have little ones, the Explorers Children’s Club pioneers excitement to new levels, with activities for different age groups and interests. An outdoor fun area has a playground, trampoline, splash park and stage, whilst Munch, the mini gourmet kitchen, offers cooking classes and food and drinks for their different tastes. Throughout the resort, family-spirited accommodation, dining and experiences abound — sophistication meets exploration, with extra special attention lavished on VIPs both large and small. Take time to soak up the raw beauty of the unspoilt beaches and blue lagoon, revel in spectacular Ocean views from your luxurious studio, suite or pavilion, explore the islands by bike, and treat yourself to a recharge at LIME Spa, featuring eight iconic treatment rooms and world-renowned products, including Gentlemen’s Tonic and Intraceuticals. You won’t want to leave!

We visited in November for 10 days, it was our first trip to the Maldives & Niyama was bliss! As soon as you step off the seaplane, you know you have arrived in paradise. The team is instantly welcoming and the islands are impeccably maintained by an incredible team of staff. The location is breathtaking, offering the perfect combination of luxury and serenity. Without a doubt, this hotel will be our first choice whenever we visit the Maldives again. Niyama has multiple restaurants and some pop ups during the week: of them Blu, Epicure, Subsix, Nest were the ones we used and all their menus are delicious. A massive thank you to all the chefs and servers who made every meal a wonderful experience. A special mention for our Thakuru Shanun who saw to our every need. He had the perfect amount of contact without being intrusive. A whataspp group was set up when we first arrived and used for providing daily updates of any activities and details of restaurants which they book for you. A special mention to Hussain who made incredible daily detox drinks, Imran who offers fresh coconuts and a big smile, Chuchu at the rum bar, the chef at teppanyaki, Hery, Pritesh, Fundi, Ayu, Jenna, Faiz, Aqueel, all the team makes the whole experience exceptional. A relatively typical (i.e. wonderful) five-star Maldivian property, although compared to other similar resorts in the area that we’ve been to, this one has more variety (and generally better quality) food choices in its many restaurants. Grounds are impeccably maintained, the sand on the beach is sparkling-white and the sea is very welcoming for a swim, although snorkelling options are quite limited as the house reef is quite remote from the beach and is only accessible by boat, ditto the sand bank on the other side of the island. Except for a few design flaws (e.g. no ventilation whatsoever in the smaller bathroom with a fixed window that can’t be opened, no outdoor shower by the pool, a bizarrely pre-programmed a/c system) everything else is in good shape and we found our beach villa a very relaxing place to stay. Our villa butler Zaid was a great host who looked well after us and made our holiday relatively carefree, as he promptly and effectively booked all the meals and activities for us throughout our stay. Bottom line - a reasonably priced (obviously by Maldivian standards) high-quality destination with modern facilities, helpful staff and excellent catering options for every taste. We’ll be back!
