The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort

My wife and I stayed at the Westin for 7 days in an unforgettable experience. Our stay started with a nice and easy check in process with Naveen who was very helpful in trying to make the process quick and easy after a long and tiring flight. We didn’t have the check in process in our villa like some others have mentioned but we were in these nice and relaxed cubicles and were greeted with drinks and refreshing towels. We also got a quick whistle stop tour of the island from Naveen who was very friendly. A theme throughout my review is that the staff are all very personable and like to get to know you on a personal level to make your stay bespoke and special to you which is one feature of the hotel that makes it fairly unique. The weather was a little choppy in the first few days but we still tried to make the most of it by seeing what the island had to offer. There are a lot of activities on the island to keep busy with even if the weather is not so great. Unfortunately I have forgot the name of the patonque instructor but he was a very kind and helpful gentlemen. We had a lot of fun with him allowing for social activities with other guests which made for a lot of fun. We also played a number of other games the resort has to offer including pool, connect 4 and other beach related games. The resort also has a tennis coach called Rohit who is an extremely friendly and kind individual. I had a session with him and he is patient and a coach who is very encouraging and easy to learn with. The resort has a social tennis session which is free and personal sessions which come at a cost. I only made use of the social session but had a short 1-1 before another guest turned up. Rohit was also always available around the resort and constantly approached us to offer help in any way whatsoever. I think as an individual his focus was making sure we made the most of our experience and stay here and for most people that’s an extremely important aspect as this is a once in a lifetime experience for many. For that reason he provides a lot of value to the resort and experience as he is making sure that guests are really able to take advantage of all the activities and experiences on offer. He is a real credit to the resort and team. Our villa was very nice. It has a modern feel but also keeps a nice tone of matching the islands theming so nothing looks out of place. The toilets are Japanese which can take a little getting used to (would be great to have the shower head in the rooms too as it took me a little getting used to). The room has a lot of nice little touches with an extremely comfortable bed and an orange juicer which I loved. The housekeeping team are extremely friendly. I was actually quite picky in asking for certain items but they were very helpful in fulfilling requests quickly and they cleaned the room to a very high standard every day at convenient times to us. Jazlan was in charge of housekeeping for our villa and did an extremely commendable job. He also went above and beyond by getting rid of any lizards and providing us with extra items we asked for. I hope his hard work and rigour does not go unnoticed and he is rewarded for this. Athar was the housekeeping manager for our stay and added some very personal touches which enhanced the stay for our honeymoon greatly. On our first night, we were given a really nice well presented dessert with local and international origins as well as a cake that was excellent. Athar also gave us a few nice edible surprises which we very much appreciated. Jazlan also used to add little touches for when we got back to the room including messages and decorations which made the room look really nice and my wife seemed to love the little messages of appreciation. The experience of breakfast and dinner itself is quite the draw to this resort. There is great food and the service is unmatched to any resort I have stayed at. For breakfast, Anto and Taqwa used to go above and beyond to serve us with fruits and other fresh produce and even used to wrap some so we could take it to the room. They were extremely personable and they would remember exactly what we wanted allowing us to get to know them more personally. Knowing the staff more personally is a major draw of the resort as you never feel strange or uncomfortable to ask anything. On our last night, they even gave us a nice romantic experience. Aiman was our main server for dinner and did a fantastic job at making the experience extremely pleasurable. He made it very personable whilst also giving us space. Dining staff are on hand at all times to help and they cater for every little experience. You simply do not have to lift a finger as they seem to do absolutely everything short of spoon feeding you the actual food. This is extremely impressive and unmatched by other resorts I have stayed at. The man that is the cherry on top of the cake is Santra. He was a very kind and caring man that went to extreme lengths for both of us to make sure we enjoyed our stay greatly. Santra would regularly provide us with food that we requested that wasn’t readily available and overall treated us in such a manner that he left a great impression on us. I think he is a credit to the team and the resort for his genuinely caring and kind demeanour. I can’t praise this man enough for how he elevated our stay. If there was one thing I would have to critique it would be the diving centre (I believe this is not actually part of the resort itself and is a separate entity). Whilst the staff themselves are very polite and kind, it seems that they are more so looking to exploit tourists coming here on a once in a lifetime experience. There are social diving and snorkelling sessions but they seem to try and push you towards their outrageously priced personal sessions as well as some of the experiences on further away islands. They charge 740 USD at the time of our visit for a 3 hour trip. The interesting part about their pricing is they immediately try and drop it if you mention it’s slightly high so it does seem like they are just trying to squeeze the tourists who come on a one off journey. They regularly mention that if you’ve come all the way here you have to do it and they try and give you the hard sell. Whilst I didn’t do the actual experiences with them, people who visit should be aware that similar if not better experiences can be had for a tenth of the price and I don’t recommend this resort for those type of activities based solely on the extortionate pricing which seems slightly predatory and the hard sell. Overall, I definitely recommend this resort for an amazing experience. The service is unmatched and the hotel itself is extremely nice too. We have had the most phenomenal experience here at the Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort we could every imagine. The resort itself is stunning and offers the perfect blend of privacy and luxury all in one. The rooms are spacious and well appointed with with modern finishes and offer a very luxurious and comfortable stay. It would be hard to have anything to complain about as the Resort is absolutely beautiful and being situated in the middle of the Indian Ocean on an small remote island offers a feeling of getting away from it all. The snorkeling off the deck is spectacular with the most colorful sea life and coral right at your feet. Often through the week we were lucky enough to see pods of dolphins, reef sharks and many other fish right from our patio. What makes this place so special is the people. The Maldivians and other staff at the Resort are the friendliest most genuine people you will ever meet. The service in every area is beyond anything I have ever experienced in my thirty plus years of traveling both professionally and personally. From the time we touched down in the Maldives we were met with such warmth and comfort starting with our escort to the sea plane over to the Westin. Upon arrival Aite welcomed us and was so warm and accommodating to our every request while we checked in, took care of transporting our luggage , toured us around to show us the property and also was very helpful with our special requests. I have never been to a resort where everything got better through the week and I can honestly say this is one place where everything did keep getting better. There are too many names to mention here but I am going to try my best.... Every morning and some evenings in the Island Kitchen Aiman was our waiter and greeted us with a smile, humour and great conversation. He is truly a gem and such a great guy. Hoodah who could not do enough for us at first at the Pearl and then other establishments. Offering great recommendations, cocktail pairing, a very genuine smile and friendliness is phenomenal. Our room attendants Salaam, Shihaam and Puttke who were the nicest guys you will ever meet were absolutely one of the highlights. The room was sparkling clean, turn down was like the whole room had been cleaned to perfection again and also the little special designs were absolutely delightful. Such a great group of guys here you have at this property. The Aqua Team at the Dive Center was beyond incredible. Being new to diving we were not quite sure what to expect but we're thrilled to meet our Diving Instructor Brianna who is beyond amazing along with Zilwan and Asim. Brianna had the perfect personality and experience for us. Very charismatic, full of energy and knowledgeable and a great guide. Zilwan and Captain Asim were phenomenal and were very thorough in getting us all set up. Very friendly guys and also very helpful with ensuring we got to our dive site and back to the boat safely. I call them the "Dream Team" as I was a bit nervous on a couple of dives and the 3 of them together were awesome to have and I felt very safe with them onboard. This team is incredible if anyone is looking to dive these are the perfect group to have by your side. The food at the property was fantastic and breakfast in the morning with ready to order egg station, waffles, tons of fresh fruit and of-course many other options for any palate. The endless Mimosa's in the morning were a great way to start the day on non-diving days. We did take advantage of room service a few times during the week and the service was always very prompt and with smiles. The Pearl restaurant for dining offers an intimate experience with a set menu that changes through the week and I would highly recommend. The cuisine is Asian with mainly sushi and seafood but they are quite accommodating to dietary restrictions and food preferences so the wagyu beef is a must have. We booked a sunset overwater bungalow villa and the view did not disappoint. I would be very surprised if anyone had anything but positive things to say about this property. We were booked at another property initially and due to the ongoing renovations decided to move to the Westin, which I think was a blessing in disguise. The best hotel we have ever been to! We visited the Westin for 5 days for our honeymoon and had high expectations given the previous reviews but our holiday exceeded our expectations. Nothing is too much for the staff at the Westin, they are a real credit to the hotel. Special mention to Hussain, Ramesh and Ahmed. They remembered which drinks we wanted at every meal, remembered our names and couldn't do enough for us. The room (over water villa with pool) was incredible, such s big room and everything was perfect. We were genuinely sad to leave this place and we will be back!! Read less

My wife and I had one of the best stays in our life… it is really tough to explain, what we experienced during the last 10 days! We stayed in luxury brands like The Ritz-Carlton, St. Regis and Mandarin Oriental around the globe, but we never experienced so much personal, human service luxury like we did at The Westin Maldives. Every day we where feeling the deep love of service and the love of smile and happiness of every single team member! We are speechless somehow, as to how a team can be so empowered to live the love of service and guest satisfaction on such a high level. We know by today, that when we visit the Maldives again in the further, we will see all of these wonderful people again. We fell in love with your attitude and how you see the world.
