In the Baa Atoll, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Transfer time from Malé International Airport: 30 minutes by seaplane (remember to pack light for the seaplane transfer as luggage allowance is 20kg plus 5kg hand luggage, per person).

This place has some good aspects. Namely some lovely and exceptional staff. The tennis coach is truly world class, having been a pro player and hitting partner for legends of the sport. A fabulous teacher also. Thanks Arthur. Naaish our butler also a great guy.

Unfortunately however this resort offers really poor value compared to others. Ridiculous high rates that I was boxed into paying. My choices were a bit limited because I really needed a tennis coach and last minute. They promised a discount for a long stay but immediately rescinded it.
The GM’s wife acts like she owns the place, lording around with this small child. Once she left the baby in the gym unattended while he poured milk everywhere and a guest had to try and stop him. Not the baby’s fault of course. I also witnessed her shouting at staff members for seemingly no reason. Not classy.
The management here including the director of rooms really don’t care. On top of many other small niggles that add up is extremely poor WiFi… everywhere. I was unable to hold any business meetings due to that.
A really flat experience overall. No chance I’ll be back.

This is now our third visit to Vakkaru but unfortunately it’s not the Vakkaru anyone remembers.
New management came in this year and the GM has zero Maldives experience. The island is dead with zero activities or atmosphere and the lowest occupancy rate at around 40 percent over festive !

None of the staff are happy with new management who have been rude, arrogant and dismissive.
Unfortunately the idyllic island is in a terrible way ( see photos ) with the beach a building site for our entire stay.
The restaurants and bars are dead in the evenings with the main bar closing at 10.45pm despite guests wanting a drink. Bizarrely when it was suggested to Teddy the GM it closed he said we had lied and was in fact open until midnight. Very strange behaviour especially when the head barman then also said it had closed at 10.45.
No umbrellas to have lunch - apparently they are on order
No teen activities, no pool parties anymore , nothing for repeat guests.
Anytime we asked to speak to the manager he simply said they are moving in a different direction. Good luck with the new direction !
He even blocked my number on WhatsApp as did not want to discuss anything.
So so sad considering how amazing this island and staff are and the fact so many guests are loyal and repeaters. They have all said they would never return now.
We have been to over 25 different resorts in the Maldives. Every single one of them amazing u til now ….

Exceeded my high anticipation.
Spectacular exprience staying at Vakkaru. Staffs are professional and nice, not to mention a great atmosphere all around the resort.
I had a chance to exprience all restaurants in the resort and they were all amazing.
