The hotel

A luxurious throwback to the colonial days when Mauritius’ sugar industry thrived. Rambling grounds, residential atmosphere, and bespoke furnishings create the feel of a Victorian sugar baron's mansion. The homely feel here doesn't mean you forgo resort treats though: there are lovely pools, water sports and exquisite dining and drinking spots, from the Asian Floating Market to the beachside Boathouse and Grill. The UNESCO World Heritage site at Le Morne Mountain provides a befitting backdrop to the resort with some of the world's best diving and kite-surfing only moments away. Days are best spent on the white sand beach, one of the island's best, with its iridescent lagoon.

We stayed at the JW for the final part of our three week trip to celebrate my wife's "big" birthday. Having had a busy schedule in South Africa, all we wanted to do in Mauritius was to relax and chill out and we were certainly able to do that here. As a Marriott Titanium member we were fortunate to have been upgraded to one of the Manor Suites, which was wonderful.......thank you so much. Very hard to find fault with the hotel........our butler was most helpful and made our dinner reservations for that evening when he greeted us at breakfast.......the suite was kept spotlessly clean........the choice of restaurants and quality of food is very good as was the service.........the breakfast choice was excellent.........the main pool was large and just the right temperature........plenty of comfortable sunbeds and we were looked after so well by the lovely Aroumel who kept us well fed with banana crisps and cheese balls as we enjoyed our daily bottle of Rose wine in the sunshine. Our thanks have to go to all the staff who help to make this a wonderful hotel, in particular Aroumel who I have just mentioned, as well as Michael and Arvesh at the Boat House bar.........I'm sure we will return! We spent a truly unforgettable wonderful holiday at this hotel. Location and facility: The hotel is located on a beautiful, well-kept and wind- protected stretch of beach. There is a meeting point for kite surfers within walking distance (it's worth a walk here). The sea is shallow at first and is ideal for snorkeling (but be careful: coral reefs, wear water shoes). Service: We have never met so many friendly and warm people in one place. The people are really exceptionally friendly, polite and attentive in a non-intrusive way. They are very open and happy to get to know you. Whether in the restaurants, on the beach or generally throughout the hotel complex, everyone has been very friendly and keen to make sure you have a great time. We would like to highlight the follow-ing people in particular: - Sajeet (Restaurant „Floating Market“) - Yash (Beach Bar) - Jerzy (Butler) - Rao (Restaurant „Boathouse“) - Kritika (Restaurant „Boathouse“) - Angele (Restaurant „Boathouse“) Cleanliness and facilities: The hotel is very clean and has beautiful, spacious grounds. Food / Restaurants: The hotel has a very large and extensive breakfast buffet. There are several themed restaurants - some accompanied by show effects. You can try out different styles – e.g. traditional cuisine or Asian fine dining. Activities: The hotel offers various sports activities such as for example surfing and kite surfing courses, snorkeling, water skiing and boat tours. There is also a large fitness studio with activity classes and yo-ga, a spa area and a sundowner aperitif, for example. In addition to several beach bars, there are many different places to sit on the beach or by the pool. Thank you very much to the whole team! Read less

Our first time here was amazing, so we simply had to come back. Our second time at Marriot Mauritius exceeded our already high expectations. First off, the staff is super attentive, kind, helpful and cater to your every need. The service is very high quality, just what you would expect of a 5star resort, plus we had many perks as repeat guests and personalized surprises since they remembered details about us from the last time. The biggest gratitude about the fantastic hospitality goes to Neha who is both very professional and personable, and always goes the extra mile in accommodating you. She made our vacation very easy on us by providing some tourism advice and arranging all activities in the hotel as well as outside. We were half-board and found that to be enough, especially with the hotel providing small snacks for free on the beach every day. The restaurants were also very good as we had a choice between fine dining options and a bit less fancy options, plus every evening there was a special event in one of the restaurants, so our dinners were always fun and interesting. We got to experience a private teppanyaki session at Atsuko, the chef was especially entertaining. Also, dinner at Indya was consistently great. A special shout out goes to Rao for being extra nice and helpful and suggesting the best food options at the Boathouse. The Boathouse also offers surprisingly amazing artisan pizzas that can by enjoyed while lounging on the beach. The location of the resort is the star of the show, with Le Morne beach being truly the best beach in Mauritius and one of the best in the world. We stepped outside of our villa straight onto a huge stretch of white sand beach, crystal clear water and most importantly - never encountered crowds since the beach is private access only. Even more, a lot of the activities the island provides (on and under water, inland, nature parks, etc.) are on the northern part of the island. All in all, we had a carefree, fun, extra relaxing and perfect time at this resort, already looking forward to being third time guests. Read less
