Fantastic location and exterior to this historic hotel. Many great staff. Some of long standing. The restaurant and food is pretty darn good also though very expensive. The problem is twofold-- the rooms and the price. The rooms are almost universally 'meh' .. as the kids say. Dreary, tired, 3.5 just maaaybe 4 * level. The bathrooms are ancient with weird low unusable tubs. Just tired. the rooms generally are just not what one would expect for the price you are paying. Which is the other issue. This place is Four Seasons prices for Marriott standards. They trade off the location for sure -- and why not. But be aware that's where your money is going. The location. Not on the rooms- and I have stayed in all types. Even the common areas feel a little 1970s. Very much needs a do-over. Stayed here a bunch but no more and have moved elsewhere now where the value is better. Don't mind paying top dollar for hotels but I want the top dollar experience if I do. LA has plenty of these/ PS Happy hour at FIG restaurant is v good AND good value. SHOCK!! Read less

Senior adult friends decide to enjoy Thanksgiving in Santa Monica. We chose the Fairmont for location, historical beauty, and ocean view. All staff friendly & professional. All elevators out Fri afternoon to at least check out Sat. A staff member told us this has been on going for 3 years. Preprinted signs and door mounts supported this. We were on the top floor and climbed up and down with difficulty due to health issues. Response to every inquiry is “ it’ll just be a couple hours.” This is a huge safety risk. A medical emergency especially on the upper floors could be disastrous. Read less

The valet service was amazing. We felt so welcomed by Chris the manager..Evan, Frank, Ami and Sandra. What a great way to start our visit ! Fig and Soko as well as the Lobby Lounge have amazing food. The fried chicken is out of this world, the sushi is the best we have ever had in the US and sea bass special at Fig was so delicious.
