The hotel

Escape to the Hyatt Regency Newport Beach — this retreat sits next to the Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve and is ideal for a bit of walking, cycling or nature viewing. You'll be welcomed by 26-acres of lush landscaping, before the newly renovated lobby and bar area lure you in with a calm, coastal California chic theme. Directly off the Newporter Lounge, is a comfortable patio with a firewall, hanging lights and magnificent views of the bay — and those views carry through to many of the guest rooms. Take your pick from three beautiful outdoor pools: chill at the adults-only 'Indulge' pool and find a restful spot at the 'Serenity' pool, or have fun with the kids at the 'Oasis' pool. Whether your passion is shopping, dining, boating, or performing arts, you’ll find it close by. Hit the beach, take to the water on Newport Bay, or wander the shops at Balboa Island and Fashion Island. Disneyland, the Aquarium of the Pacific and Laguna Beach are just a little further away.

Close to Newport beach, fashion island and attractions in the area. Cleanliness is questionable. I stepped on pecan pieces near bed. At least one of the shower towels have brown spots as the size of a quarter. Wall paper is peeled off from the wall. I also was over charged $40 for parking while using online checkout. The overall experience was great. The room need a bit of refurbishing. The staff were great and attentive and this made up for the aesthetic and design deficiencies of the room. The hotel layout was easy to follow and the gardens are well kept. There’s enough parking space.

This hotel is run-down and tired. The physical plant needs a major remodel. My wife and I stayed in a one-bedroom king room. They don’t have central heat/AC but instead have a mini-split on the wall. This heater was very loud and turned on intermittently throughout the night, keeping us awake. The front desk and house keeping staff were… Read more

(They get an additional star for this.) But regardless the hotel is so depressing, we’ll never stay here again. Read less

Overall the hotel was nice but dated. The biggest problem was that the heater sounded like a jet engine and rattled the entire room. It was hard to sleep. There was generally no response to the text message number that they recommended using for support. It took an hour to open the water slide when they said it would take 10 minutes. The pool with… Read more

Worst hotel experience ever! No one disclosed you could not park near your room...No one disclosed there are no elevators, only steps!!! We could not check in early at 2pm as requested. Having dinner with Family at their home, and could then not check -in until 10PM. We had requested two extra pillows and one extra blanket, but they were not in the room at check-in. When we called housekeeping over and over, no one answered...I froze all night long and was terribly uncomfortable. I had requested a first floor room and was told upon check-in that all suites were upstairs... I had requested a room with a bath tub, however, the tub drain was not operable and would not work, so I could not take a bath. The pet fee per night is $150.00 and the resort fee is $40.00 per night, very excessive. My Husband went to the restaurant and ordered two café lattes with two shots of Bailey's, which cost $48.10, ridiculous!! The view was great from the room... I am a Hyatt member and made these reservations back in July, and I grew up on this area, so very familiar with Newport Beach. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone. I would rather find a luxury hotel that took care of me and my requests... Read less
