The hotel

‘The Del’ as the Coronado is known as has been open for business since 1888 and is a designated National Historic Landmark! Indeed, it’s been the backdrop to many a Hollywood movie, including Some Like it Hot starring Marilyn Monroe. The last of California’s stately old seaside hotels, it is a monument to Victorian grandeur with virtually no two rooms alike and a sumptuous wood panelled lobby that has to be seen to be believed. Recent additions include Shore House at The Del, an elevated hotel experience in an extraordinary neighborhood of seaside villas. From an oceanfront pool that blends seamlessly into the horizon, to an inviting living room that flows effortlessly outdoors, Shore House offers an extraordinary sense of place, where family and friends form deep connections in a rare beachside setting. The Del's newest restaurant inside the beautifully restored Laundry building. Dine outside on the lawn and watch the action at the BBQ Pit or gather inside the historic brick building beneath vaulted ceilings and the Laundry's original conveyor system. Pull up a stool at the historic wooden bar from the 1880s for inventive cocktails, beer and wine.

As a returning guest for the third consecutive holiday season, I have observed a consistent decline in the quality of experience at the Hotel del Coronado. The rooms appear outdated and are in dire need of renovation. Service standards have noticeably deteriorated over time. Additionally, the hotel imposes substantial fees for amenities such as seating by the ice rink or on the lawn for dining and beverages, which seems excessive. The current 3.5-star rating on TripAdvisor reflects these ongoing issues. As a Hilton Diamond member, I was disappointed by the lack of recognition; despite the availability of superior rooms online, no upgrade was offered, and late checkout beyond the standard 11 AM was denied. Regrettably, I do not plan to return to this property in the future. Read less

We went for the ice skating next to the sea. DONOT GO. First, it is very expensive but I didn’t mind because it’s an experience, right? They oversell the tickets and don’t care, we were I don’t know how many people packed in that small ring and you can barely move, it was not nice at all, again, the money it’s not problem if you are paying for a… Read more

Just came back from four nights at the Del Coronado. Have been a visitor there for the past 40 years on an off. As many may know, the historic building rooms are currently closed for a MASSIVE gut to the studs renovation with reopening in early 2025. Spend four glorious nights in The Views (former Ocean Towers). Fully down to the studs gut renovation. The room was great and enjoyed every moment of our stay. Expensive? Yes but I feel that it was worth it. The staff was wonderful, the room NEW modern and up to date! Parking is a long way off in the newer north underground parking garage and a bit of a walk currently as the way through the old building is closed for renovation or one can valet the car. Dining at the Del Coronado is bit NO for use and as usual enjoyed the many dining options in walking distance in Coronado. Nobu will open in the old Sheerwater space in early 2025 which should be interesting . Would I recommend the Del? Yes, but let's hope that the final nail in the renovations will complete in 2025. Skip the dining and dinking and enjoy the village in Coronado. Read less

I wanted to take the time to not only create a trip advisor account but to take time to recognize the exceptional service I experienced this past weekend at the hotel Del Cornado. I stayed at the LXR beach village and from the moment of check in and at the valet noticed that the quality of service at this establishment was far greater than my set expectations. I wish I could give recognition to every individual I encounters but here are the names I remembered and why; Jay: Jay was extremely accommodating and professional at check in and throughout my stay making sure that my girlfriend and I had a stellar check in and experience throughout our stay. His great energy and cool Santa hat set the theme for the Holiday weekend we enjoyed. John at valet: John was extremely professional, patient and careful with our luggage and even went out of his way to call and confirm each item we wanted brought to our room. Claire: Claire at LXR was able to provide a welcoming feeling even prior to check in. She is very professional on the phone and made sure that we got the room we wanted, fixed any issues and also helped with multiple dinner reservations. Sasha and Alex at LXR front desk: Sasha and Alex were both meeting up to the expectations that were set from our moment of arrival and made sure to continue bringing great energy and helps curate our amazing stay. Alex actually coordinated with my girlfriend to surprise me with a bottle of champagne and chocolates when I got to the room. Lisa and Brett at Serea: I have eaten at far too many restaurants in my life but never have I had every recommendation provided hit the spot exactly as described. The atmosphere they created paired with some amazing food that far superseded expectations and I enjoyed chatting with both of them beyond just food recommendation and will request them whenever I come back to dine. Chris: sold me the coolest Jacket I have in my collection and was able to bring multiple options that suited me just off a quick glance and some question. Artis: I stayed at the views last year and Artis actually remembered me by name and went out of his way to say hi and called me by name based off our one interaction 1 year ago. Glad to see him over at LXR this year and have never seen someone with a better memory at a resort along with such a great personality. Thank you to all of the other employees I couldn’t mention - see you guys next year Read less

We attended a holiday party at the hotel Del Coronado so we decided to spend the night there. this wasn’t our first time staying there. We ended there once before about eight years ago for the same reason, but this is the first time certain things came delight that I just did not expect a hotel of this caliber to be lacking. But first and foremost, it is a very interesting and beautiful hotel on a beautiful part of the San Diego Coast. The beaches are nice. The views are amazing and the history associated with this hotel make it a must visit for any first time visitor or even for San Diego local like us.. I was just surprised that there is no room service and that when you pick up your car from the valet you have no choice, but to go stand in line. There is no callout option.. last week but so many other hotels. It is way understaffed at the front desk. Expect weights for everything from getting a key replaced. Or calling for any type of information.. on the Saturday night of our event with the lobby completely packed with tourists and guests, I went to try to get a duplicate key for my wife. There were three desks one was the check-in desk second was the concierge desk and the third was like a tourist information desk. At approximately 9 PM on a Saturday with the lobby completely full of visitors there is nobody manning any of these desks. Eventually, alone, customer service person showed up at the front desk and I was able to get my duplicate key, but aside from its history and excellent placement. This is no more than a three star hotel. Read less
