Big Island, Hawaii

Virgin rating

The hotel

Spanning 22-acres of oceanfront, adjacent to Keauhou Bay, this truly special resort offers a perfect location for an authentic Hawaiian experience. Most of the resort overlooks the ocean and feature beautiful colours and prints created by renowned Hawaii designer, Sig Zane. Another highlight is the fantasy pool, set on several different levels and dramatically nestled along the ocean’s lava cliffs — it really is unequalled in all of Hawaii, something we don’t say lightly! Kids will love the 200-foot winding waterslide at the oceanfront lagoon pool.

Synise was amazing! So attentive and very helpful!! Would love to come back and be served again by Synise! She also told us about the best poke spot, Umeke’s. She also said for us to order th kids burger instead of the regular burger, which is much more convenient for a family of 4!

Just visited the lounge on the ground floor to have a drink and watch the sunset. The waitress, Kim was amazing! Helpful, welcoming, kind and friendly. Fabulous view of the sunset over the ocean! The appetizers were great and I appreciated the flexibility to enjoy.

We had an amazing family vacation at the Outrigger! I don't even know where to start. Veronica at the front desk MADE our check in experience (I hope someone at the hotel sees this and credits her for it)! We got in at night and when we woke up the next day we realized that we didn't really have the ocean view we were hoping for - still an amazing view of the bay and gardens. Veronica went above and beyond to make sure we got the perfect room. She was kind and helpful, and every time we saw her around the hotel she asked how things were going. CJ at the concierge was great too! He also went above and beyond to make sure our family got the perfect experience. He even helped me with a curling iron situation! Overall the hotel staff was really fantastic and sometimes that can make or break a hotel experience. The room was awesome. We got a king suite which was more than enough room for us to move in for our 6 night trip! Clean, stylish, and incredible views. We enjoyed the awesome pool everyday but loved walking around the grounds. There is so much to see! The lava rock path is right on the ocean and wraps around to the bay where you can see colorful fish in the crystal blue waters. We saw lots of geckos, birds and whale sightings. At night, they shine a light on the ocean where you can sip a cocktail and watch the magical manta rays swimming around. We did the hotel's luau (Feast & Fire). We actually did it TWICE! Pay up for the premium seating if you can. My brother in law who is a local said it was the best luau he'd ever been to. He said the food was very authentic and it's unique in that it's very education based. The show was very mesmerizing! We had kids from age 1 year old - 13 and everyone was engaged. Highly recommend! Can't wait to go back! I miss the Kona coffee at the hotel - nothing compares. Thanks for the amazing experience! Read less

I also appreciated all the customer service of all the staff. The staff was very welcoming, it made me feel like they were being treated well at their jobs. I especially enjoyed the meals I had at the pool restaurant. The fish tacos and the arugula salads were excellent. The waitresses, Jade, Tyanna and Kim always made me feel at home. They were always there to answer my questions, serve me wonderful poolside drinks, and deliver excellent meals. Read less

My family and I enjoyed our time staying at Outrigger. We were given one incorrect room of two that we booked when we first arrived, however we were put in the correct room after day 2 of our stay and all was well. Overall happy with the corrected room’s view. We were able to see the manta rays from our balcony every night! We enjoyed the classes provided by the hotel. We attended a lei making class taught by Hunter and a bracelet making class taught by Nikko. We learned so much from both of them about the history of Hawai’i. Hunter was very knowledgeable and kind when it came to teaching our young son and had great answers to our questions. Also showed and explained games that originated in Hawaii to us and it was very interesting. Nikko was also knowledgeable and even took time to talk with us about planes and Pearl Harbor as we had went to see the Museum the day before on Oahu. Both Hunter and Nikko went above and beyond with their teachings and we will forever cherish those memories. The gift shop Holo holo had great workers and the two our family interacted the most with was Lala and Wayne. Both were friendly and helpful and kind to our two teenagers. Our teens spent a majority of their time at the pool and although I didn’t get the name of the gentleman that was the lifeguard at the slide on the family side; he definitely deserves praise! Also shoutout to the housekeeping staff for providing us clean rooms and clean common areas in the hotel; we saw how hard they worked. Read less
