1 Hotel Hanalei Bay

Kauai, Hawaii

Virgin rating

The hotel

A Hawaiian haven on Kauai's North Shore, this beautiful hotel is all about wellness, relaxation, and sustainability. With stunning views over Hanalei Bay, this really is an oceanfront sanctuary where you can enjoy as much or as little activity as you like. The beach is right on your doorstep, be it for a relaxing swim or a spot of paddle boarding and kayaking, and the cute town of Hanalei isn't far away to explore. But the highlight of this hotel (in our opinion) is the spa. With natural and organic products, and individualised treatments, you'll be feeling the effects long after your treatment has finished. The adults-only infinity pool is another highlight, with ocean views and a poolside bar, so you can enjoy some peace and quiet with a cocktail in hand. There's two other pools though, with a shallow one that's particularly suitable for the little ones, whilst Seedlings Kids club is a fun, educational space where the little ones can enjoy a host of activities inspiring imagination and discovery. And we haven't even touched on the food. There's a wide range of bars and reataurants that focus on locally sourced food - we're pretty sure you'll never go hungry here. All in all, this hotel is perfect for active families, solo travellers, and newlyweds alike.

Hotel is outstanding. All three restaurants are great. If you get Jay from DC as your server while eating at 1 Kitchen, you’re in for a good time. He is charming, funny, and very personable. If you can you should ask for him every time you eat at 1 Kitchen.

Aloha, The 1 Kitchen in Princeville has a great little breakfast buffet we enjoy. The views are spectacular but the service is exceptional. Of all the servers we’ve had (we live in Kauai), Susan is our favorite. All the servers are great but there is something truly special about Susan. She’s delightful, efficient and she goes out of her way to accommodate requests. I’ve actually written to corporate about her but never heard back so I’m telling you instead. We came today but were seated with another server. He was great too but watching Susan with the other guests was very cool. You could tell they all loved and appreciated her because she talks to you like she’s known you forever. The last time we were there, she was the only server for the whole restaurant. She never made us feel rushed and never showed any sense of agitation or stress. I still don’t know how she manages that without Xanax! I’m kidding. Anyway, if you find yourself hungry in Princeville Kaua’i and looking for a nice buffet go see Susan at the 1 hotel. Don’t forget to tip folks! This crew works their butts off and some people are unacceptably demanding of them. Please show Aloha when visiting. Mahalo Read less

I travelled to the 1 Hotel at Kauai on somewhat last minute notice for some much needed R&R and boy was that the right move! First and foremost, the on site team, notably including Tony, Katherine, Vincent and Linda - is unparalleled. My trip began with my rental car breaking down on the side of the road about 20 min from the resort. Tony picked me up promptly so that I would not be stuck in the dark - and that would have been enough. However, given how much a car is essential to the overall experience of the island, they went out of their way to ensure I had a house car for me to drive whenever I needed. Not only that, but they gifted me a range of items - from a candle to pillow spray - Tony touchingly remembering I mentioned I wanted to relax, and wanting to ensure I did just that!! I find these days everything is battle with service - but not so here. The 1 hotel team is beyond gracious, embodying the Hawaiian generous spirit. What else can I say? The property is gorgeous, restaurants top notch and the concierge team super knowledgeable. They arranged a fabulous surf lesson, helicopter tour, gave me precise food tips at multiple restaurants near by and the ins and outs of the hiking trails. As a solo traveller, I was easily able to create a total wellness vacation on site with all of the amenities from a world class gym, to beach fitness class, sunrise yoga to hot Pilates. Whether you are solo, with friends, family or celebrating a romantic occasion the resort will check every box and more. I can’t wait to return!! Read less

An excellent 1 Kitchen experience, thanks to James. His mastery of the new menu and inclusion of island folklore and knowledge was most impressive. And his respectful, professional comportment most appreciated. Jay enhanced the perfect backdrop to our family vacation.

Finally made it here! Rooms are great. I liked the old design when it was a St Refis better. But the staff as amazing. Local fun and friendly. We never expect great food in Hawaii but they and do a decent job. Johnny at the bar is a hoot. They really cleaned up the beach!
