Part of the Outrigger family, this is a premier hotel with well-equipped, spacious guest rooms ensuring a comfortable holiday base. The location is fantastic too, directly overlooking beautiful Waikiki Beach and just a stone's throw from shops, bars and restaurants. Even people who aren't staying here tend to wander into the lobby as it's filled with rare and historic Hawaiian artefacts, including a century-old koa canoe! The Hula Grill Waikiki is another local attraction, serving scrumptious breakfasts and romantic dinners beside the ocean. Duke's Waikiki is also right on the beach and perfect for an evening meal, complete with regular live music and hula performances. The swimming pool is beachside so you can enjoy the views of the sparkling blue waters, wherever you choose to set up camp for the day.

Prime beach access but hotel makeover is needed
Dec 22, 2024Indotraveller_10Vancouver Island, Canada
While convenience to beach access makes the hotel a prime location, the hotel is dated and worn down, carpets in lobby and rooms look extremely worn, hotel elevators are extremely slow, your baggage storage is out in the open so not that secure if your room isn’t ready, balcony and railings are dirty. This would be a prime candidate for a hotel…

In the past, we've not been all that impressed with the hotel rooms on our stays at various hotels on Waikiki - but we've never stayed here at Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort before. We've been coming to Waikiki for about 20 years and we've stayed multiple times at the Royal Hawaiian, the Moana Surfrider and Sheraton Princess Kaiulani - and we've enjoyed the stays . . . but the rooms themselves are just not up to snuff. Poorly designed spaces, weird temperature controls, odd housekeeping, ancient funk in need of updating . . . there might be a great common area, but the (quite expensive!) rooms where we've stayed aren't as nice as a business hotel in flyover country.
We've always kind of wondered about the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort (not a brand name we recognized, so we were hesitant to stay here) - we have been here for food and drinks since we started visiting the area, but only just now got around to biting the bullet and trying it out as a place to stay.
Wow, are we glad that we did. Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort had none of the issues of the other hotels - it wasn't inexpensive (of course; look where it's located), but it hit the mark for us. Great and comfy space in our ocean-view balcony room - not fancy or updated, but not dated or creepy. Smashing housekeeping service (bell desk and front desk folks were great, too) with lightning-fast room cleanings and not a thing less than perfect ever. Great amenities Great location. The bed was a comfortably firm foundation BUT had a thick, soft pillowtopper that wasn't great for my back; also, the room could have used more bedding (a supplemental comforter) in this cooler season. No robes or slippers were provided.
We're not talking about anything like a fancy place in Vegas with multiple marble bathrooms, but the Outrigger Waikiki Beach Resort gave us our best stay in all of our trips to Waikiki. (And I understand they're planning an update in 2025.) We plan to return.

Fantastic location but the hotel is crying for a makeover.

This hotel could be so much better with a makeover. Carpets are threadbare, furniture needs refinishing. The hotel basically looks shabby and uncared for. The $50 per day resort fee charged in addition to the room rate should offer additional amenities. Their free Internet is a relic. For $50 a day extra, they need to come up with additional perks to ease the feeling of being ripped off.
We stay at the hotel strictly for the location.

Noise from Dukes below was awful

We had a nice time at the Outrigger Waikiki Beach during our 4 night stay except for the extreme volume of the music below our oceanfront room. We love to sit and enjoy sunset and this was impossible with the noise below at Dukes, even with earplugs. I took reading on my Apple Watch and it was 88 decibels. Not the Hawaiian experience I was wanting.
Staff were lovely and the beach was amazing. Pool a bit small but this is to be expected in Waikiki. Rooms are outdated but we knew this beforehand. Beds were comfortable and the view was incredible.
If it weren’t for Dukes below I would return. Unfortunately we’ll be looking elsewhere next time.
