The hotel

Set against the majestic Ko’olau Mountains and overlooking Waikiki Beach, this Sheraton hotel is a real slice of heaven. With sun, sea and sand on your doorstep, indulge in water sports, land sports, wining and dining or simply stake your place in the shade and relax. There are two incredible oceanfront pools: an infinity pool for the adults, a very serene place, or family-friendly Helumoa Pool where the kids can splash to their hearts content. If a spot of pampering appeals, head to Spa Khakara for a couples massage or an individual beauty treatment. Hungry? Kai Market serves farm-to-table fare that showcases the flavours of Hawaii perfectly. It also enjoys amazing views of Diamond Head and the Pacific – a treat for the eyes as well as the taste buds! Alternatively, Rum Fire is the sensuous new spot for tapas and cocktails – boasting the country’s largest selection of vintage rum and playing live island melodies each evening. The Edge of Waikiki lives up to its name – set on the beach, it’s the perfect spot to admire the sunset over a tropical thirst quencher.

We booked a family holiday for two weeks at the Sheraton Waikīkī. Here is the run down of our experience December 2024…. ROOM We stayed in a City View room with two beds (shared room with kids) as we didn’t plan on spending a lot of time in the hotel. So the fact our room had an ocean view from the balcony was a bonus. The room was a great size, even for the four of us, we were really happy. Had everything we need and the daily cleaning was excellent. There was an ice machine and cold water station on the walk to the lift. We used this everyday and it was very convenient. The Hotel gave us water bottles on arrival so they were immediately useful. Big thumbs up - didn’t need to buy drinks as much as we had cold water and ice with us. LOCATION Having stayed at other big hotels in Waikiki, this had the ideal location. It is perfectly situated to get everywhere easily, parking on site - we did rent a car for a few days to drive around the island. It is perfectly located for getting to amazing restaurants, sightseeing, shopping and walking along the main strip. HOTEL AMENITIES We found the hotel had great amenities which made staying there for quite a long time very convenient. * Excellent Gym - we used with our kids almost everyday. Very good equipment. * Great pool with a cool slide that our kids loved * Two really good hot tubs pool side * Separate adults pool but we didn’t use it. * Shops on site - Coffee Shop Good range of shops at the hotel Baskin and Robbins Lawson’s Convenience store Jewellery Ukulele Cookie Shop We loved that you can walk straight into the beach. We went snorkelling in front of the hotel and swam with a huge turtle. Just on our doorstep! ** I would recommend ordering the chips (fries) at the pool. They are consistently amazing! NEGATIVES Two things that aren’t great. First, the hotel restaurants are expensive and don’t offer good value for money compared with the restaurants located close by the Hotel. Secondly, we found that the advertised Happy Hour at the hotel restaurant was non existent. A very slim Happy Hour menu and again, a short walk and you can get much better options. POINTS TO NOTE 1. Hawai’i is INCREDIBLY EXPENSIVE. We underestimated how expensive when planning our trip. We spoke with Americans from other parts of the USA, and everyone had the same view. 2. Infinity pool looks great, keep in mind you can only use if you are an adult, so if you’re with kids, it’s eye candy only. The view is gorgeous. 3. You aren’t allowed to take the drinks you buy from hotel shops (i.e. the convenience store inside the hotel) to the poolside lounges. We were told only drinks purchased from Rum Fire can be consumed. This is unfortunate as Rum Fire is expensive and options aren’t great. Overall, would highly recommend this hotel for family holiday. We had a great time and the location is second to none. Read less

To be able to see the sun rise and sunset from the balcony was incredible. The staff here treated us like royalty, especially Roger who is our housekeeper. He made us feel so incredibly warm and welcomed. He noticed that we had not had a lai yet and went out of his way to provide the three of us with a lai. He greeted us every day with a genuine smile and appreciation for what he does. Read less
