Bellagio

The Strip, Las Vegas

Virgin rating

The hotel

Epically romantic, you may recognise the luxurious Bellagio as George Clooney and crew’s scene-stealing co-star from Ocean’s Eleven. But then, thanks to its world-famous dancing fountains (some of which shoot 460ft into the Vegas sky), the Bellagio has a habit of making any night along The Strip an unforgettable event. Look beyond the eight-acre Lago di Como and you’ll find head-turning elegance in a hotel that’s inspired by a picturesque Italian village. Rooms and suites are sumptuous without being flashy, there’s a gallery of fine art with rotating exhibitions, five pools with a refreshing Mediterranean accent, O, Cirque du Soleil’s® water-based extravaganza.

Pros: --Center of strip, but expect lots of walking just to get from room to the street as hotel is pushed back a block off street for their fountains, and rooms are at the very back. --Spacious rooms --Friendly cleaning staff --Tasty food at Patisserie and Sadelle’s --Nice soaker tub in our upgraded room (no jets, but that’s a good thing IMO).… Read more
Pros: --Center of strip, but expect lots of walking just to get from room to the street as hotel is pushed back a block off street for their fountains, and rooms are at the very back. --Spacious rooms --Friendly cleaning staff --Tasty food at Patisserie and Sadelle’s --Nice soaker tub in our upgraded room (no jets, but that’s a good thing IMO). --Free tram to Cosmo, Aria, and Park MGM at the back of the hotel. --Nice heated pools and large jacuzzies Cons: --Smell of sewage in our hallway that seeped into room (4th floor). Seems to be an issue in Vegas in general as we smelled it outside the front lobby, too. --Terrible view of garbage bins and freeway --Games seem rigged (e.g., computer instead of dice used to determine first player at Pai Gow tables, after it scans all of the hands into the system). None of our group of 14 won the entire 4-day weekend. --Not enough casual dining options with tables to sit at. --No food available after hours. --Even casual food is super expensive ($20 smoothies, $25 crepes) --Beds are a little too firm and pillows not filled enough, but OK. Comfy linens. --Saw they had grandstands hiding their famous fountains when the Grand Prix is in town. --Pool/jacuzzi close at 4p (in January, at least) --Spa services are crazy expensive ($400 for 80-min massage) --No coffee maker, microwave, or dresser. --Fridge has small personal shelf, but still not very big. Personal pet peeve to not have access to the fridge in my own room. Read less

Used to be such a great hotel. It’s run down and outdated now. Door handles falling off. Room service took forever for simple items. Expensive for no reason. Lines were long and staff were not fast. Rude answers when explaining I needed hot water to make a baby bottle

While the Bellagio is undeniably beautiful, the service leaves much to be desired, and the hotel itself is in need of some TLC. For the exorbitant price, in-room amenities are minimal, and there’s a noticeable lack of care in guest experience. It seems the hotel is coasting on its name rather than delivering a true five-star experience. We chose the Bellagio based on glowing recommendations from family and friends who visited over a decade ago. Unfortunately, it has clearly gone downhill and now feels more focused on money-grabbing than guest satisfaction. Our experience at check-in was nothing short of horrendous, particularly as I was heavily pregnant. We received our room keys at 3PM, but no matter how we tried, physically or via the app,the door wouldn’t unlock. Even the cleaning staff attempted to help without success. Following their advice, I used the hallway phone to contact guest services. The representative assured me that security would be sent up immediately. Fifteen minutes passed, another cleaner attempted to assist, and security was finally contacted - only to say that the door was locked. I called guest services again, explaining that I was pregnant, in pain, and needed access to my room urgently. This time, they put me on hold, checked with management, and confirmed there had been confusion: the door was indeed locked, and security would be sent up right away. By now, the pain had worsened, and I had to sit on the ground while waiting. After another 10 minutes, I called again and was connected to JD in guest services. Before I could explain the situation, he cut me off abruptly, demanded my room number, and snapped that they had no control over when security would arrive. I attempted to explain that I was in pain and needed urgent assistance, but he repeatedly interrupted me, dismissing my concerns. When I mentioned that two staff members had confirmed the door was locked, he snapped again, insisting that “doors don’t lock.” I was absolutely shocked by his hostility. Never in my life have I been spoken to like that by someone in customer service - let alone at a supposed five-star hotel. When I told him he was being rude, he angrily accused me of being rude in return. I requested to be transferred back to the previous representative who had been helpful, but he refused, insisting he would handle it. When I asked to speak with his manager, he coldly asked what it was regarding, put me on hold, and then hung up on me. I was completely overwhelmed - stressed, in pain, and now deeply anxious from the way I had just been treated. I called back and was grateful to finally reach the original representative, who was far more understanding and empathetic. While on the phone with her, at 4PM, my husband continued trying the key, and suddenly, the door unlocked. Clearly, there had been a mix-up where our keys weren’t activated until an hour after check-in. Mistakes happen, and I would have been understanding of the error had it been handled professionally. But JD’s treatment of me was appalling. The way he escalated the situation, disregarded my condition, and outright dismissed my concerns was disgraceful - especially for someone working in guest services at a luxury hotel. Adding to the disappointment, multiple service requests for room issues went completely unaddressed. The hotel does the bare minimum when it comes to amenities - no coffee facilities, no shower cap, no vanity kits - anywhere they can cut costs, they do. The only reason I’m giving two stars instead of one is because of the couple of staff members who did try to assist and the fact that the hotel itself is still visually stunning. However, if you’re expecting a world-class five-star experience, prepare to be severely underwhelmed. Read less
