Image of the Tripadvisor rating Overcharged For a Night I Didn't Stay

I am giving this one star due to being charged for a night I didn't stay at the hotel, at their highest price. I've stayed there several times before, with no issues - rooms are nice, staff is knowledgeable and great, garage is efficient and secure, food is excellent. This time around, I needed to check out a day early, and therefore stayed one night out of 2 that were reserved. This was close to the Xmas holiday (12/23). The desk staff person who checked me out printed out a receipt for my actual charges, which came to around $400. One month later, I received my credit card statement with a bill from Midtown Hilton of over $1000. I called and sent an email with my receipt attached. I received a reply stating that their records showed I stayed 2 days. My responses referred repeatedly to my receipt, while I was sent emails asking if I checked out with a front manager (as if I hadn't actually checked out?), who the person was that I checked out with, please provide more details, etc, etc..., and assurances that my issue was going to the right department. My issue went from billing, to front staff, and eventually to rooms operations, where the story suddenly changed to, "we printed the receipt wrong accidentally, and the charge is correct with the inclusion of our early check out fee, which is equivalent to one night's stay" (and I guess one night's stay on their most expensive day of the week). Make no mistake - the person who checked me out was not a new hire, knew how to do his job, and printed a receipt which was correct as of 12/23. Hilton is a franchise, and leaves it up to individual hotels to decide what early check out fee they want to charge, if they want to charge one. Just be aware that Midtown Hilton will charge arbitrarily, and as much as $600, if you want to leave a day early. I was offered a new receipt with the swindled amount on it - still haven't received that, either. I won't be staying there ever again. Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Great locaction to take in a show in NYC

Jan 26, 2025 GradingMachine Oak Park, California

The room was great--comfortable bed and close to shows. There's a nice bar for drinks and a place to pick up coffee and continental breakfast since this hotel does not offer room service. Friendly folks. Good deal for Hilton Honors folks: $35 credit/day.

The hotel is in a fantastic location for getting around New York, ideally suited for those wanting to explore the city. The room was clean and very comfortable. No tea or coffee making facilities but we took a travel kettle. No water provided in the room and there was a space where a fridge used to be - this would have been nice as we were staying for 7 nights. The hotel charge a $35 per night fee which can be used on all of the hotel facilitates. Everything is expensive so this amount doesn't go far. I would suggest that you use it each day as if you cant carry it over to another day. It can be used in the bar or the onsite café/shop. We used it over the week for food (pizza and chips) bottles of water and a couple of drinks in the bar. They also do coffees/hot drinks but most morning there is a bit of queue The staff were all friendly and helpful, the cleaning team were extremely friendly and do a fantastic job. It was really nice to get back to a lovely, clean comfortable room after a long day exploring the city. The room was very quiet, no noise from outside and we both slept really well. We didn't have breakfast in the hotel but there are plenty of options just outside. We would 100% stay there again Read less

Lovely hotel. Felt very welcome and staff made me and my partner have an unforgettable experience. I would definitely go back next year for our anniversary. We stayed for two nights and was even allowed to check in early upon arrival at no extra cost
