Incredible service. Staff super nice and helpful. Jean E David went out of his way to get me out to the airport on time and was extremely courteous. Clearly seems like the management knows how to take care of its employees as they all seem to be very happy at their workplace. Thanks again Jean!

Image of the Tripadvisor rating Heartless Hotel refuses to provide normal rate for cancer patients

My wife has cancer and was in NY for surgery at the Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. The SKCC has an arrangement to provide discounted room rates with this hotel. My wife has cancer and was in NY for surgery at the Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. The SKCC has an arrangement to provide discounted room rates with this hotel. Not only would this hotel not honor the SK rate, they charged us over $1200 for one night!! The normal rate for an SKCC patient is under $400. I told them the situation over the phone twice and in person when we left (even the desk clerk said “wow” when he saw the rate but there was nothing he could do. He said this is an “unusually high” rate.). We even tried to get SKCC to help but they too were told no. Apparently the date we needed to stay (not flexible), December 4, coincided with the NYC Christmas Tree lighting. So, to get my wife to her life-saving cancer surgery we had to pay this heartless hotel, who put profits over their commitment to benevolently provide assistance to cancer patients, and that only has compassion when it doesn’t impact profits, their $1200. I should add we’re retirees My contempt for this type of behavior is off the scales. Read less

We spent a week here and checked out today. Overall the stay was good but there were some hits and misses here. The hotel offers a very mixed experience —good location, plenty of access to everything in the city, subway, walk ability to sites and neighborhoods, midtown East is good, it is safe and relatively quiet. —Ess A Bagel is around the corner, do t wait in the long line, just go to the counter and order bagels, lox and schemer and bring back to the hotel to eat in the AM and skip the pricey breakfast. —24 hour fruit vendor in the corner of 51st and 2nd has great fruit and great prices, load the fridge! —Room 808 where we stayed had a broken shower head and it was replaced and was much better —Room was spacious but not super clean. It was cleaned each day but there was a surprising amount of dust along the floorboards and behind the bathroom sliding door. —Bathroom floor is ruined by water, the shower area is so soft it is sponge which should be addressed. —Sink area water courses toward the back of the deep sink counter and just runs into the floor, honestly it is gross and definitely not the right way for the sink top to be. The floor is just ruined. This should be checked. —The laundry machines in the basement, very handy! —Front desk staff lovely and professional. For people who are sensitive the heat system is on and it is hot so you have to modulate the room temp with keeping the window open which allows the city sounds in so all the sirens, trucks and city noise is powerful and it really does go 24 hours. Windows are not soundproofed so you have to be prepared for that. I don’t know if we would stay here again. We enjoyed our week, I’d have liked more space and a slightly more updated room but overall it wasn’t bad. Read less
Image of the Tripadvisor rating Mediocre Hotel

The hotel is located on the east side, a bit further from the crowds and close to some subway lines. It is nice looking and the rooms are fine, but mediocre for the price they charge. The front desk staff is cold and moderately helpful. Breakfast is pricey and not worth it. But the straw that broke the camel's back is that if you have status… Read more

But the straw that broke the camel's back is that if you have status with Sonesta, it means nothing at this location. I suggest to go somewhere else. Read less
