After reading the reviews I was sceptical, I had already emailed the hotel in advance to find out exactly what extra charges to expect upon arrival. After a long journey from the uk we arrived and were greeted promptly and pleasantly, relieved to know our room was on the 21st floor 😅 The room was average (cosy) but had everything you need and most importantly was clean and comfortable. The hotel is in a superb location making it a popular choice. If you want location over comfort this is the place. Renovation work is ongoing so yes there was noise, walls are thin and we also had water turned off one day but ample notice for this with a polite notice posted through the door. House keeping visited daily so cannot fault them. Reception staff, depends who you got on which day, some more helpful than others. My only fault, is the refundable deposit .... I'm still waiting for this and I've had no response to my email which is disappointing hence the AVERAGE rating. Read less

The Pros: I had status with the hotel (IHG) so I was able to be on one of the renovated floors. The difference between the renovated and non renovated floors is shocking. Ask to be on a renovated floor, if possible. The hotel is in an amazing location, right in the middle of everything in NYC. Christopher handled our check-in and was polite,… Read more

Ask to be on a renovated floor, if possible. The hotel is in an amazing location, right in the middle of everything in NYC. Christopher handled our check-in and was polite, fast and engaging. He started our visit off on the right foot. Every staff member we encountered was polite and engaging. Top notch. The cons: Yes, the hotel is under construction and will become a Crowne Plaza eventually. There are not many, if any, amenities at the hotel but there's a Starbucks and Duane Reade around the corner. Even on the renovated floors, the hallways and loud and the walls are very thin. We heard everything our neighbor was saying (and doing) and could hear everything in the hallway. The heat was also very difficult regulate. We walked into our room at 80 degrees and even when we turned it off, it seemed to stay on. Read less

I just got back from staying here in New York for three nights and I have to say, was completely disgusted with the cleanliness of this hotel from the top to the bottom of this hotel! First of all, after checking in and going to our room we walked in and could immediately see how dated the hotel was. The rooms had old dingy carpet and filthy tiles, OLD mattresses that literally you can feel every spring go into your back, dirty and old drapes and night lamps covered in dust. If all that was not bad enough, the room was 56 degrees and the heater did not work. We ended up having to get moved to a room that was equally dirty and grungy and that heater did not work either. Had to be moved a 3rd time and finally gave up. We stay in the room, completely dissatisfied. The tub was so full of hair that when you took a shower it immediately clogged up and took forever to drain. There was black mold on the ceiling and a slimy, pink grime on the tile and corners of the tub!! Disgusting. The toilet clogged and we had to get a repair man to come and use a plunger to fix the toilet! I have never stayed in such a disgusting, old and FILTHY place in my life. I DO NOT recommend and would NEVER go back again. If I could get my money back o would, but have to call it a complete loss at this point. Buyer beware. Read less
