I had the opportunity to stay at this hotel this January of 2025. I checked-in on the 18th. Let me just say — I was blown away. From the moment I arrived the bellman treated me with excellent service and was very kind. I forgot the gentleman’s name but he was GREAT. It was around 11am and my idea was to leave my bags with the hotel staff and go check out what was around since I figured that it was too early to check-in. I was attended to by a lady named, Stephanie, at the front desk who was absolutely incredible. Not only did she provide excellent service but she was able to get me checked into my hotel room right away!! Stephanie made sure all my needs were met and she was honestly so great that I told her I would 100% leave a great review about the hotel and the service. Downstairs, in the lobby area there’s a restaurant where the staff is absolutely phenomenal. The food and the drinks are great. But they also have a rooftop bar that absolutely steals the show and has amazing views of Manhattan. I was attended to at the rooftop bar by a bartender named, Carlos, who was exceptional and just an absolute joy. Carlos made me feel as if I was at my local neighborhood bar. With that being said — this was by far one of the greatest hotel experiences I’ve ever had and definitely the greatest hotel experience I’ve had in NYC. The staff as a whole were absolutely amazing and met my every need. The room was great, nice and clean. Bed felt like a cloud. The area the hotel is located in has a lot to offer. I would recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of traveling to New York and staying in the city. I know for a fact that whenever I travel to NYC again that this will be where I decide to stay again. Probably our 6th time staying at the Shelburne and it is remaining pretty consistent. We know and love the area (Murray Hill) and all the places to go. We had a one bedroom suite with a terrace on the 12th floor this stay and we loved it. The suite was huge and the bed and pillows were amazing. As always with these old buildings you will find some quirks such as the bathroom toilet being too close to the tub which makes getting in the tub (to soak or shower) tricky. The furniture in the living room was getting very tired and does need to be replaced soon. Especially the couch. However it does appear that some finishing's have been upgraded in the room since our last visit prior to Covid. Kitchen was fine however it could use a few more convenience items and the fridge could be colder. We visited the Village Green on the roof for some drinks and it was all good. Bartenders were great guys and everyone was very friendly. We also had something to eat in the Take Care Bistro each day. Food and service was excellent. All the general hotel staff were great the the service was excellent. The only thing I would recommend is totally getting rid of the extra hotel facilities fee and the pantry fee. Totally unnecessary and the pantry scheme can be very confusing to guests. Just build the costs into the basic room fee prior to the on-slot of the various NYC taxes. Looking forward to our next stay! Read less

For location, size of rooms, cleanliness, and price, this has to be one of the better deals in NYC. There are less expensive hotels, but after reading reviews with smaller rooms and questionable conditions, I went with the Sonesta, which was in a better location for my trip. Our stay went from great to outstanding due to our interaction with the staff-specifically, Luis at the front desk. We had stayed at various hotels the past few nights (we traveled from out-of-state to stay in the city for my husband to have surgery @ Mount Sinai), and Luis by far was the most personable and friendly staff member we met during our stay in NYC. His positive & cheerful demeanor lifted our spirits during check-in, and he made us feel truly welcome @ the Sonesta. Thank you, Luis, for your kindness & wonderful smile! Amanda & Jeanne Read less
