Special thanks to Mr. Hasan who had great hospitality mind and always smile on his face. All the staff working very hard as it is very busy time for every hotel. I highly recommended this place and of course we will return back. Read less

The staff, spa, children's club, Laku and Koko restaurants were brilliant. The two self-service restaurants had wonderful selections of food and drink. However, our experience of the accommodation's lack of maintenance was very disappointing. It took eight days to move us from the pool room which was an upgrade, as we had booked a jacuzzi suite. We had no water on two occasions, no hot water for another six days, very noisy air conditioning, pool lighting and filtration failure and a bath which could not be used as the twist mechanism to unstop the bath was broken. We had a great three day stay. Highlights: Gorgeous, lush grounds. Great cocktail program Our room (2103) with small private pool was amazing. Great view. Huge, modern bathroom with separate tub. Adult only pool at Laku. Snacks at Laku were also great - the pesto flatbread and hummus with fresh flatbreads were standouts.

Our second time back to this beautiful hotel in as many years. It’s recently been rebranded Barceló but the feel and friendliness of “the village “ as it formally was, remains. It’s quite a unique set up on a small island off the mainland. Boat Transfers are regular and dependable. The staff are incredible. The rooms are great and the food is some of the best I’ve had anywhere. Some of the bad reviews on here of this place are just incomprehensible. I wonder if they actually stayed here at all. The house keeping can be a bit hit and miss, especially if you leave your room later in the day and give them less chance to clean it but a quick call to reception remedies any problems. It was wonderful to see lots of familiar faces in the staff the second year around. Most notable in our experience were Mau in the Kucina restaurant. Minnie in Kabang and Non at the beach bar. Great English. Always a smile. Great service. A credit to the company. Also Ted and Ron on the activities team and Hasan at front of house. The new Laku beach restaurant they were building last year left us somewhat underwhelmed. Menu was a bit fussy and the design and comfort of the place didn’t hit the spot with us. Again though, excellent service. It’s true there is maintenance going on around the property but the workers are so respectful and don’t make any noise unless absolutely necessary. Garden staff work all year around trimming and sweeping. (You are staying on a fast growing jungle island after all) We decided to try bed a breakfast this year as we were a bit more confident about getting out and about. Our gamble certainly paid off. We visited the old town on the mainland and also ate a lot at the cheap and delicious Coconut Seafood just down the beach where you can also get an excellent massage very cheaply. We took the hotel push bikes out a few times and explored. Got a Tuk Tuk taxi to the other side of the island and spent a few mornings at Zcoco private beach. All in all a fantastic second trip. Thankyou Barcelo. Read less
