We visited Riu Atoll for 12 nights earlier this month and I can truly say it’s one of the best holidays we’ve ever had. We arrived by seaplane which I would highly recommend upgrading to. The transfer was seamless and we were welcomed with a drink and cold towel. Staff were highly attentive throughout our stay and any queries dealt with promptly. We had a beachfront room which was wonderful and our house keeper Wai Lin was amazing. Beautiful towel art, especially on my birthday! To leave the room and step out into the sand and into the sea was bliss. We were in block 15 which was a 5 min walk to the pool and restaurants. Try to get blocks 10-15 ish or your walk will be much longer. The food in the buffet was lovely and our server Rafa was amazing. Both restaurants were nice but as its first come first served it can be problematic to get a reservation if you’re not there early. We liked to have drinks listening to the dj during sunset so was always around 7.30 by the time we got out at night so had to wait for a table. The bar staff were excellent both in the pool and sports bar. Take your own snorkel gear and water shoes for the reef…it’s breathtaking and we’re now hooked! We did the sunset cruise but it’s not worth the money. It’s nicer staying on the beach having a drink in hand! Overall an amazing trip, staff wonderful and would highly recommend! Read less

A Magical Stay at Riu Hotel Maldives – A Trip to Remember My husband and I have just returned from a one-week stay at the Riu Hotel Maldives, and I can honestly say it was one of the most breathtaking experiences of my life. Everything is perfect! We have never experienced so much kindness and attention from the staff anywhere.

Overall, it was a great trip. Not sure I would return, however. Staff are friendly, polite and very helpful - big shout out to Jessica at pool bar who is equally wonderful and brilliant. Room in over-water villa is lovely, and kept in very great order. Beware that if you are in rooms facing east (odd numbered rooms) you only get sun on your decks until 11am at most, and if you are in west facing rooms (even numbers) I guess you won't get sun in decks until after lunch. If you want all-day sun-bathing, pool would be the place to be. The beach and the reef were amazing, well worth snorkelling and exploring the house reef, though corals in the shallow bit do not have much swim-paths so be careful not to scrape your hands and knees. Food was average, not that great but not bad either. Great in variety, but nothing outstanding and same goes for the two a la cart restaurants; menu is all but 4 items at most to choose from and really nothing remarkable. Transfer to the hotel was a looooong trek. First, had to wait for domestic flight in a lounge provided with free food and drink which is nice, the 1 hour delay not so much. It was a long LONG day after 11 hours flight to then have another flight, wait for luggage to come out, 30 min drive to the marina then a 20 min boat trip to the island. It added another 6 hours to our journey (arrived in Male at 2pm, hotel at 8pm). If I knew this, I'd have upgraded to seaplane straight away. We did for our return and well worth it. So if you are planning to go there, consider paying extra for the seaplane if you want to arrive sooner rather than later. Read less
