And the food quality is absolute bottom. Wife ordered tuna tartare and got canned tuna and a packet of crackers. What a joke.
Drinks, forget about the menu they publish, that's not happening. The bartenders never heard of it. You're getting orange juice and a watered down rail spirit.

I stayed before at the Grand Moon Palace and had a good experience, so much so that I got a membership. No problem in getting to any restaurant, plenty of chairs at the pool, etc.
For this Holiday season I invited my extended family to the Sunrise Moon Palace. Part of the same group, but a little more affordable compared to the Grand Moon Palace (definitely not cheap though).
Arrived yesterday and so far only disappointments:
1. Cannot reserve restaurant. I was told I need to wake 7am to be able to reserve 3 days from now!! Unacceptable
2. Building needs maintenance. Plenty of spots that require improvement
3. Corridors are dirty, with lots of plates outside rooms. I am embarrassed as my parents don't usually come to 5 star hotels and see this
4. Room has nice decoration, but very tight. Beds are tight. We made reservations for 5 in a room, but then there is barely space to walk between beds
5. Can't find chair at the pool with shade. Members have a special area, but learned that I need an upgrade to my membership to be there!!! Unbelievable!!!
6. I already knew that coming in, but the ocean water is brown (not the clear waters you see in Cancun or Playa Del Carmen)
If you are looking for Cancun stay at the Zona Hoteleira or Play Del Carmen. Stay away from Sunrise Moon Palace.

Other than a slight delay at check-in, it was an awesome week. The staff is amazing! They go out of their way to make sure you have everything you want or need. December is a great time to visit as crowds have not yet started.

About 4 months ago I booked a room for my family in anticipation of our trip at the end of December. Of course, they make you pay in advance, which is not a problem (and pretty normal) for most of these types of resorts. Usually we stay at a different all-inclusive chain hotel brand, but decided to try something different.
So after getting charged thousands for the room we had carefully selected, five days before arrival we were sent an e-mail saying, "We are oversold and you have two options, go to an adults-only resort or go to a smaller room that can't accommodate your family." That was it, those were the only options.
If you've pre-paid a reservation, booked four months in advance, should you expect the room you reserved is available? I think so. To make matters worse, we are traveling with family and this has pretty much ruined the time for us to be together.
I should have read the reviews in detail--apparently this is common place business practice for this outfit, and they have the nerve to defend it. A month ago when my credit card was charged, they hotel should have notified me and either offered a substantial discount or an upgrade to a better room.
