The hotel

In the Maldivian language of Dhivehi, ‘Lobi’ means love and ‘Gili’ means island, so therefore Lobigili is, in essence, the island of love. If you’re looking for a romantic trip for two, this is it. Set in an idyllic location with white sandy beaches and sparkling waters, the adult-only OBLU SELECT Lobigili offers some experiences to make this a trip you will never forget. The largest underwater restaurant in the Maldives, Only BLU offers modern gourmet cuisine with a front row seat to the coral reef – and it’s included in the excellent Lobi Plan. This indulgent plan also includes a complimentary sunset fishing trip and a guided snorkelling trip, so you’ll get to see the best of the island and it’s surroundings after that relax with the included spa treatments. Both the beachfront and over water suites have a modern feel with semi open-air bathrooms and walk-in wardrobes, why not upgrade to the water pool villa for that added luxury of a private infinity pool overlooking the lagoon.

What an amazing holiday again. staff can’t fault any of them… miss Rinki looked after our every need, she is so kind, thoughtful, helpful, always willing to go the extra mile. We got a beach villa this time which was so much more relaxing for us,than a water hut. Was surprised that the women/staff weren’t aloud to wear nose rings being Indian and in this day and an age you would think it would be aloud as it’s modern and I wear one… so I think that’s a bit old fashion of the boss who doesn’t aloud it. We suggested that they should do sandwiches, crisp, fruit at the swing bar as not everyone wants to eat three meals a day. And they should offer a drinks menu for your room as not everyone wants red or white wine or beer. I wanted tia Maria which they said I could buy at the other hotel which I wasn’t happy about so I bought it with me… then three days to the end of the holiday head waiter/manager said we have a bottle at the swing bar for you… said I’ve got some. But I do appreciate it. Food was outstanding done a cooking class and it wasn’t as good as last years class.. chef done all the cooking, we watched. Had three amazing massages by ching as she done them last year too.. thank you for a lovely holiday hope to see you again soon Read less

We have just returned from the most amazing holiday at Oblu Select Lobigili. We read the reviews prior to the trip and were fairly confident that we had made a good choice, it definitely didn't disappoint. The food was exceptional and the service we received throughout the resort was truly 5*. We were lucky to have two visits to Only Blu during our stay, one for lunch and the other in the evening. We preferred the evening visit, the fish and sharks were abundant and the 'couples only' evening rule made the meal feel more relaxed and special. We did see lots of fish during the lunch visit, however families from the neighbouring Island are also in the restaurant during lunch service and we had a large noisy family at the next table with a screaming child. It is something to consider if you are only able to visit once. On the whole, we wouldn't hesitate to return. We had a fabulous time made even more special by our hostess Maryem, and Koti who arrived every day with a smile and kept our water villa spotless. A special thank you to Maryem for making my partners birthday extra memorable by arriving at our room on a specially decorated birthday buggy complete with birthday cake and transporting us to Ghadiya in style! We spent 9 nights on the island from the 9th of January 2025. This was our 10th island, the others being, Olhuveli Sun Island Kuredu x3 Reethi Komandoo Kanuhura Kagi Coco Bodu Hithi Baros These roughly span 19 years so some islands will have been revamped, updated or got more tired (assumed). We booked primarily on the back of, • Adult only • Reviews • Speed boat transfer Overall, we would say the island is very nice but not outstanding, given our priorities, but it really does depend on what you want. This is not an island you can really walk around via the beach, though it does link to another one where you can do longer beach walks. River shoes are essential here, even if you are only walking to your sun bed. There is a lot of loose coral on the beach, but in front of our villa, it was concrete rather than soft sand. We have been to many islands where you don't need river shoes at all. How the boulders have been placed in the sea makes for some lovely little bays that are great to swim in. There was a constant coral-clearing effort, but there was just not enough sand where we were located. Our room was okay but didn't feel 5-star. There was no comfortable seating, just a huge beanbag, a table with one somewhat unsteady chair, and a window seat. However, we needed that for putting our clothes on due to insufficient storage. Given the demographics of an adult-only island, the beanbag just took up space, and it's hard to imagine many people using it. The room cleaners were excellent, and the minibar was always topped up with the items we were using and extras of each. As on all islands, the view from the rooms battles privacy versus the sea view; this island comes down on the side of privacy. We always had enough towels for the sun beds and we were given mattresses due to my wife’s back condition (but these are not standard). The other outside seating was a concrete bench with a cushion on which we didn’t find very comfortable and of course it couldn’t be moved. Mechelle, our room host was brilliant throughout our trip. She was always concerned with our well-being and was especially thoughtful given my wife’s physical difficulties. We really cannot praise all the staff enough for their attentiveness. As we vegetarians there was only one restaurant option. The ‘meat truck’ was the other eatery, but we knew this advance and mention it because some people like several options. The vegetarian selection in the Ylang restaurant was excellent. There were always loads of salad and vegetables available, as well as curries, pizza and a whole host of other things. The naan breads were one of the best things we have ever tasted, and the curries, in particular, were first class and seasoned as individually requested. The staff in the restaurant were probably the best on any island we have been to, led by a superb restaurant manager who could have done nothing more to improve our stay than he did for us. All the staff at this resort were outstanding, and nothing was too much trouble. (Not sure what was going on with the music in the restaurant. It was more like (80/90s) night club music and certainly not what most people would choose to eat to). We visited the underwater restaurant twice, and again, the food and service were first-class. It’s well worth visiting. We didn’t do any snorkelling but our neighbours did and didn’t seem to think it was as good as the other island they had stayed on. We didn’t see many fish as we walked over the link bridge or we were on the pontoons. If snorkelling is your thing, this might not be your island, but it may be worth looking at other reviews. We didn't sit by the main pool, but competition seemed quite strong for sun beds. One morning, a couple took over our neighbours' sunbeds, which were assigned to each villa. There wasn't enough comfortable seating outside the bar area in the evenings, and what there was was quickly taken. There was plenty of chaise longue style seating, but nobody seemed to want to sit in them. Again, the island's demographics meant more classic tables and chairs would be better. Whenever you meet somebody who has been to several islands, you inevitably discuss your favourite islands. For our needs/wants, our favourite islands so far have been Baros and Kanuhura. Next year, we hope to try our 11th island. We still haven’t found the perfect one, but if service is a key requisite for you, this island is right up there. It’s easy for someone to promise great service, but the staff on this island really delivered. Read less

I would recommend everyone to visit! It was sheer paradise. The resort is stunning with the added benefit of it only having 68 villas, which made it intimate and extremely friendly. The room (water nest) was something else, the bathroom is outside, so you hear and see the ocean as you're bathing! Extremely hard working staff, big thanks to our hostess Maryem, she could not do enough for us. She was always on hand and attended to our every need, nothing was too much trouble. Sara in The Swing Bar is so lovely, professional but like a long lost friend. She made sure your glass was never empty and automatically served to your sunbed! The cocktails were fabulous, anything could be made, even if not on the menu. The underwater restaurant was a once in a lifetime experience, along with Ylang-Ylang. The food and service was fabulous, with so much choice and cooked for you, not waiting on hot plates. The AI snorkeling trip was very professional and attentive. We see so much, and the divers took great care of us (being amateurs)! All in all we had a great time and plan to revisit. Thank you Lobigilli. Read less
