Ocean Point Resort & Spa

Antigua, Caribbean

Virgin rating

The hotel

At times you’ll get the impression you’re in the heart of Italy – at others there’s no denying you’re in the Caribbean. Exclusively for adults, Ocean Point Resort & Spa is a kick-off-your-flip flops fusion of the idyllic Med and the exotic Tropics. From its gardens, where bougainvillea grows among palm trees, to its fabulous Sottovento Beach Club, where chefs will use fresh island produce as you dine just steps from the sea. This may be a far cry from home, with its huge beachfront pool and two seductively sandy coves, but the family owners have created a truly homely space, complete with a resident cat and dog, informal yet comfy guest rooms, and day trips for snorkelling and turtle spotting.

Ok well here goes , I’ll start with the good points….. Firstly location 15 mins transfer from airport. The staff all very pleasant and polite, very welcoming and happy. The beaches are beautiful, very clean and ideal for sun lovers. The hotel grounds are well maintained, colourful and peaceful. Plenty of sunloungers to go round so no need to get up early to claim your spot and place your towels . The views are beautiful and sea lovely. So if you want a sun holiday and not do much then perfect. NOW the bad bits… Firstly do not be fooled that this resort is anymore than 3* at very best. The rooms are very dated and basic, in fact we rip out and dispose of better bathrooms and furnishings at work , the shower literally trickles out and more often than not stops mid showering, the water is just luke warm , 100% you can’t have decent shower staying here , the whole building needs a refurb, I’ve stayed in better riads in Marrakesh and that’s saying something. The pools are clean but look grubby due to dated tiles. The bathroom towels are ancient and thin and need replacing. The toilet stopped flushing numerous times so had to call maintenance . You are allocated 2 bottles water in your room and after that you have to self fill at the water station in reception. Now the very worst… The all Inclusive IS NOT all inclusive!! The menu is the same during the stay and with around 14 choices of starter and main combined and 2 desserts , the main courses are mainly fried food like burgers , chips , wontons , chicken burgers etc with a daily fish special so mainly all unhealthy options THEN they have the signature menu of over 30 dishes but all this has to be paid extra for, so if you are happy with junk food then brilliant but other than that don’t go all inclusive and eat out. After 3 days you are sick of eating here as it’s basic & boring. They have a snack bar open between 5-8pm but again deep fried food and 3 choices. Breakfast, well that’s interesting as you get a choice of 4 items , we asked for toast/jam which consisted of literally a tea spoon of very nice raspberry jam and 3 triangles of toast with the smallest possible amount of butter, we asked for some more but they refused saying we had had our 4 items, sorry I thought it was all inclusive!! It’s like being rationed, you are more likely to return weighing lighter than when you arrived as it’s all table service. The bar again is basic all inclusive drinks but anything of quality has to be paid for. The restaurant staff are great but they have numerous staff to each table so confusion easily caused and likely not to get what you ask for. Would I return?? No as there are much better hotels in Antigua which is a HUGE shame as Ocean Point has the making due to its location of easily being up there with the very best but they need to dig deep and spend some cash and re invest and definitely sort out the food situation. Maybe add a bbq night on the beach, decide if you are an all inclusive or not. Read less

We are into the last couple of days of our regular winter visits to Ocean Point and as previously we have been delighted with our holiday. Location remains the biggest attraction, but this hotel is unbeatable for friendliness of staff - with no exceptions - and the dining experience is exceptional. The hotel is an older, traditional style building so rooms are not swish but they’re perfectly clean and most have views of the sea. For anyone, like us, who come on holiday for stunning sea location, total relaxation and restaurant style a-la-carte dining every night then you will be hard pressed to find a nicer place. Not looking forward to leaving all this behind to go home - but hey, we’ll be back soon! Read less

We stopped here for 2 weeks in January 2025 and I have mixed feelings about the place. It has a great couple of beaches and plenty of space on the patios for sun worshipping. The staff are genuinely friendly and very helpful particularly the bar staff and the porters. The rooms however are very dated, the showers are unreliable and the towels are like very thin flannels. The restaurant I would say needs a big shake up.Instead of 1 waiter tending to 4-5 tables one table gets waited on by 4-5 waiters so sometimes total confusion reigns. The "all inclusive" menu consists of 14 dishes but the Statement menu consists of 29 dishes. The "all inclusive" menu is particularly bland after a couple of days but they do have specials every night so when we ordered a special at 19:30 we were informed the dish was no longer available, low and behold the dish reappeared a little while later. On one occasion we waited over 30 minutes to be served and after complaining we were given a voucher for 2 Lobster dishes which was fair really.Alltogether I would suggest the hotel is probably overpriced with some very good points and some points that really need addressing. We stayed 3 night at Ocean Pt in Mid December and were very pleased. Nice, quaint, and quiet.... just what we were looking for. The room was very nice, with a beautiful large balcony overlooking the swimming pool. AC worked fine. Although there was a TV in the room, we could not find any broadcast channels. However you can easily log into your Netflix, or other accounts to watch TV. Check in was easy using an Ipad. Very interesting structure, an old sugar cane mill. Beaches were small and very nice. TAKE WATER SHOES, although you can get by without them. The beach on the far side of the restaurant was nicer since it was better protected. Nice places swim, read, and relax. It was not very crowded when we stayed there. Water was a bit cloudy due to the wind. Not sure if snorkeling is any good. Food was excellent. I had fresh fish all three nights. Breakfast and lunch were good too. We did not order any "Signature" meals. Dining staff was very good and attentive. Note there is only one bar and dining area. You can book various tour through the lobby, but we did not. Not a lot to do after dinner except drink, sit outside, listen to the waves and watch the stars. We were extremely happy with our stay and would gladly return. Read less

We arrived at the hotel early evening for our ten day break, short check in process then porter took us and our cases to our room. Room was a nice size on first floor, good view of pool and bay, patio doors to good size balcony with table and comfortable chairs, room clean bed very comfortable good shower unusually no wardrobe but there is a rail so no problem. House keeping very good with no issues, All the meals are A La Carte breakfast menu is extensive with everything included in all inclusive, lunch and dinner A La Carte is quite varied on the all inclusive menu plus there are always specials also, there is a signature menu that runs along side this but this is payable,we did this one night very good a might expensive and no discount for being all inclusive. There is a water and coffee station at reception and on the stairwells. Drinks were very good even house wine was quaffable, service at the bars was good as was the service around the pools this was generally without exception the case with all the staff. There two beaches the smaller one has no breakwater so the sea is a little more livelier plenty of sun beds at both beaches never any issues with sun bed hogs. Pool very clean a might chilly this I doubt would not be problem had the weather been hotter pool towels as when needed. Entertainment was fairly muted but the atmosphere was very good around the bar. Our highlight of our holiday was the helicopter tour to Montserrat. Overall we had a relaxing and enjoyable holiday.
