Sandals Antigua does NOT advertise on their website that: - ALL beaches on Antigua are PUBLIC Beaches. - There is a public access within 1/4 mile of their beach - Cruise passengers to nearby town often take taxis to this public access point - A jet-ski vendor has the right to operate on the beach in front of Sandals - 150 feet of the beach in front of us is used by charter boat / sailboat services - All other "street" vendors have the right to "push" their products to Sandals guests while the guests are on Sandals lounge-chairs and under umbrellas or thatch huts - Sandals security And management are aware that drugs (incl Chinese made) are sold by a vendor next to the low fence separating the beach from Sandals' property The resulting lack of security and beach control results in the following situation: - The "private" beach that we were led to believe our Club-level room overlooked is actually a very public and unsafe beach with cruisers, vendors, boat charter attendees and jet skiers including those with No experience in controlling a jet-ski - The beach we moved to 200 feet further away is pelted with vendors selling goods and services throughout the day. When we walk into the water, we keep our eyes on our lounge-chairs to ensure no-one comes near our personal items. - On a Sunday, a local family decided to stand at the short-wall bordering the main buffet restaurant (Bayside) and the beach including changing in the nude (15-18 year old boy) in front of the Sandals lunch crowd looking out onto the beach, with no Sandals employee requesting the family to move and later chasing-off the nude boy. - The Sandals " security" that walks the beach does so twice a day with uniforms marked "Special Constable" at quick pace. Definitely for appearance only. - The Sandals "security" at 4 of the 5 gates into the property spend 5-8 minutes attempting to access their tablet to confirm our room # and name - The 5th gate (bordering the middle of the property) is usually not manned. We used that gate to skip past the inexperienced security person at the manned gate - Although Sandals offers 24/7 security to the beach, I have noted the person in front of our Club-level room falling asleep which was watch from our balcony. This is NOT the Sandals / Beaches that we experienced at 4 other resorts (3 in Jamaica and 1 in St. Lucia) that we have have enjoyed in the past years. Consequently, we Highly Recommend to Stay Away from Sandals Antigua. I brought the above matters to the attention of Sandals Management and Sandals Security. They had little response other than suggesting I go to another Sandals going forward. This experience has obviously changed my view of Sandals....No More! Read less

We returned for our third trip to Sandals Grande Antigua in November 2024. This was our 15th Sandals trip/10th resort and Antigua remains in our top 3 we have visited. We stayed in the Mediterranean One Bedroom Butler Villa with Private Pool Sanctuary (LV). This was a very nice room located in a convenient location to the main pool and beach. A shout out to Emil and Troy for taking great care of our pool/hot tub daily. Both were perfect temperature for use while we were there - pool not too cold as many are and the hot tub was not too hot. The beach is amazing. Yes, there are local vendors, but they are not intusive and take a "no thank you" easily and move on. When the cruise ships are in port the beach does get very busy. The one issue we had was moving from the beach to the resort throughout the day. The guards do ask for your room number and name when entering the resort, which is totally understandable as we witnessed many cruise ship guests attempting access thinking they could get food or drink on the resort. Our issue was the length of time it takes the guards to find the room #/name in their tablets - either bad wifi or not tech sauvy - this could be a lengthy process. Sandals needs a better way for resort guests to move between beach and resort with ease. Either a wrist band or an entry where you could scan your room key? There has to be a better way. We found the food and service to be excellent. We ate at several of the restaraunts - Bayside (French) was our favorite and OK Corral was our least favorite. The rum raisin ice cream at Cafe de Paris was really good! The service team on this resort were all very friendly and helpful during our stay. Sofiya at Barefoot, John at OK Corral and Bernalyn (nurse) were all outstanding! Saving the best for last, our butler team - Vakesha, Wendel and Neisha. WOW!! This team is one of the best we have had in all of our trips! They anticipated our every need and made everything so easy for us. By the time we left they were family. Already rebooked for this resort and will be requesting this team! Read less

She has such a lovely personality and she went above and beyond to assist in anyway she can. Chyrstal at the spa and Desmond the fitness instructor were excellent. Playmakers Lemique(sp?) and JuJu were very friendly and talented. Best restaurant experiences were Eleanor's and Mario's for dinner and Bayside for breakfast buffet. Overall the resort had a great variety of food, entertainment was great(especially silent party) and we particularly liked visiting the Cafe for our daily treats. We celebrated both our birthdays and anniversary on this trip and were made to feel special. Thank you to the management team we met- GM David, HM Diahann, EAM Nico, F&B Denny, FOM Stanley and Kimberly at the resort shop. We will be back. Read less

We just spent a week in the Mediterranean Village. I wish I had read through the previous reviews more carefully. I missed the warning that this resort is not for anyone who has mobility issues. There are many steps to negotiate between the Mediterranean Village towers and the restaurants. I should have noticed the mentions of elevators not working dating to at least two years ago. Neither of the two elevators worked properly while we were there. We did not see anyone trying to do any repair on these elevators. PROS: Beautiful beach location - plenty of chairs and umbrellas Mostly friendly staff Well serviced room maintenance - towels replenished in the evening Excellent evening performances - especially the Antigua cultural show Cafe Paris - fancy coffee drinks and pastries available all day CONS: Pool cabana rental not worth the cost - No one came to take breakfast order or help with setting up the umbrella in front of the cabana Signs of wear and tear neglected - for example: quiet pool in Carribean village Quality of food sometimes not up to expectations - substitutions of pork chop for veal chop in Mario, filet of sole deep fried instead of pan seared in French bistro, Same assortment of pastries in breakfast buffets every Read less

The food was terrible. We had one decent meal at the resort which was at the sushi restaurant. We tried every restaurant including room service the food was absolutely terrible. Even breakfast! There were a few kind employees but most of them seemed put out. Trying to get a second cocktail at dinner was like pulling teeth. The rooms were dirty. Dirt in every corner. There was a pill under our bed. The bath tub was disgusting. I will say the bed was comfortable. The beach is beautiful. If you don’t have a butler forget getting any service from the resort on the beach. If you do it takes forever. You are better off getting what you want yourself. The locals are very friendly. The people that work on the beach are very sweet. Also the elevators do not work properly. They won’t stop at every floor so you may have to take the stairs a flight or two. The resort overall needs to be updated. This was my first sandals experience and I have to say after this experience I will never stay at a sandals resort again. Read less
