The hotel

Waiting for your drinks to arrive as you laze on white sands, shaded by a coconut palm. Taking a dip in a lagoon pool among tropical plants and dining and drinking terraces. Stepping out on your balcony to soak in endless sea views before heading out for dinner. This may be the stuff of daydreams, but it’s the true island experience guests come to enjoy when staying at the adults-only Solana Beach. It does deliver a delicious cliché, but this hotel also comes with its own unique twists, like the nod to the sixties and seventies in your spacious guestroom, which is otherwise thoroughly modern. It also gives you the option to do absolutely nothing – or to pack your days with cycling, diving, snorkelling, and even complimentary glass-bottom boat trips, and your nights with island entertainment and meals in three delectable restaurants.

This was our third time staying at Solana Beach Resort. We first visited in December 2018 for Christmas, then in April 2019, and now in December 2024. Each visit has been unique, but this trip stands out as another wonderful experience overall, despite a few initial challenges. Check-In Experience We arrived on the 12th of December at around 5 PM local time. Unfortunately, the room we were initially given had a strange damp smell, which was disappointing, especially since we had never experienced such issues during our previous stays. However, after reporting the issue to reception and chatting with the management, we were promptly assisted by Iqbal, one of the duty managers, who upgraded us to a suite. The new room was excellent and truly set the tone for the rest of our stay. What Keeps Us Coming Back Many people ask why we keep returning to the same resort, and my answer is simple: it’s the people. While no resort is perfect, and yes, Solana is beginning to show its age, the hospitality, and warmth of the staff more than make up for any shortcomings. The fact that it remains an adults-only resort is a huge plus—peace, quiet, and a beautifully maintained environment. The staff goes out of their way to make you feel special. They’re attentive, knowledgeable, and are genuinely proud of their roles, which shines through in every interaction. Dining and Entertainment We were spoiled with off-menu items, freshly made pizzas, pastas, and special dishes prepared by the talented kitchen team. While some of the buffet meals lacked variety and flavor on certain nights, the kitchen staff quickly remedied this by whipping up something extraordinary or improving the selection the next day. The entertainment team was just as lively and engaging as ever. Themed nights like Mauritian Night were a highlight for us, with entertainment perfectly matching the vibe. Their energy and creativity made every day and evening fun and memorable. Our Room and Personal Touches Our suite was always clean and thoughtfully decorated with surprises like sparkling wine, flowers, beach hats, and even complimentary coffee capsules for the coffee machine. Housekeeping checked in on us regularly to ensure everything was in order, which added a personal touch to our stay. The Beach and Activities Solana’s beachfront remains a slice of paradise. The white sands and turquoise waters are nothing short of heavenly, and we spent hours in the water every day. The beach is well-maintained, with a dedicated cleaning crew keeping it spotless. We did miss the waiters who used to patrol the beach taking orders in previous years, but it wasn’t a dealbreaker. There are plenty of water sports available at the resort beach house, and the external water sports operator on the beach offers even more options for adventure seekers. Special Mentions A heartfelt thank you to the following individuals who made our stay truly exceptional: Restaurant/Bar: Benee, Jathin, Rita, Aarthi, Hari Charan, Dominique – Always on point, ensuring we were constantly smiling and well taken care of. Kitchen: Chef Dhan and Sameer (the grill master) – Their off-menu creations and attention to detail were brilliant. Housekeeping: Maahir and Jayrani – Maahir’s cheerful personality and willingness to assist made a huge difference. Jayrani’s thoughtful touches in our room were simply unmatched. Entertainment: Chris, Melina, Adrianna, Anna – Their energy and creativity kept the resort lively and fun, day and night. Management: Veer, Iqbal, Suneel, Anoucha, and Martine – Their constant effort to ensure we were enjoying our stay made us feel like royalty. Final Thoughts We had such an incredible time at Solana Beach Resort that we extended our stay. For us, it’s the people, their warmth, hospitality, and genuine care, that make this resort so special. Thank you, Solana, for yet another unforgettable trip. We’ll definitely be back! Read less

Well, where to begin! It was my husband birthday gift! We Booked two night in this hotel, and we had to relocate to another hotel the next day! The staffs are very unproffessional! Lack of kindness! Arrogant attitude. A sunday night, no animation was proposed they said that it was cancelled .. when we arrived we were at the pool and we asked for a drink the guy said pool service is already over, but the next day no one came for assistance, we had to go by ourselves all the time and had our drinks. We asked for a Cofee they said we can't have it because they put some solution in the machine! No sorry or they could proposed us something else. Very bad attitude from the waiters who were talking , shouting around the guests. Food was quiet good, lack of variety. It was mentionned Asian food on the board, but no Asian food were served at the buffet! Drinks not good at all, we were on an all inclusive package, but mojito and a lot of drinks are not included! More over, We were in our room, a lady from housekeeping knocked at the door and she entered the room without waiting for me to open! The service is not worth the price at all. Nevertheless, we said Thank you to the Customer service manager Anusha who took our complaints seriously, she did the necessaries for the cancellation. Read less

We spent an amazing vacation. We had so much fun especially with all the activities that the entertainment team has to offer everyday all day long! Going to the hotel using the all inclusive package was the perfect one to choose. Highly recommend it!!
