The hotel

As the Mauritian drinks cart rolls up to serve you cooling cocktails, while you sink your feet into the white sands of Belle Mare beach after a dip in its turquoise lagoon, you’ll know you’ve arrived in paradise. In fact, it’s so jaw-droppingly gorgeous here, they’ve now reserved Sunrise Attitude exclusively for grownups. As much as you could spend every waking moment on the beach, there’s plenty more fun in store – whether you want to linger at the seaside with snorkelling and scuba diving on offer, or you prefer swimming in one of the two swimming pools instead. However, it’s the authentic touches that really make this Adults Only retreat unforgettable, from the island-inspired treatments at Spa Poz to once-in-a-lifetime cultural Otentik experiences like dining with islanders in their homes, and learning to make Mauritian curries with their local chef.

We recently stayed at this stunning hotel and had an overall fantastic experience, with some minor hiccups that were quickly resolved thanks to the incredible staff. Staff & Housekeeping Maya, our maid, was absolutely wonderful—kind, friendly, and genuinely caring. She ensured we never went without and was attentive to every detail. The young man who handled the turndown service was also lovely, making sure our towels were refreshed and the room tidied. We felt completely comfortable leaving valuables in the room due to the trustworthiness of the cleaning team. They truly made our stay stress-free and comfortable. Mini Bar Initially, the mini bar setup on the all-inclusive package was disappointing. Guests are limited to four small beers per day, with soft drinks and coffee feeling rationed. It wasn’t convenient to restock these ourselves due to the villas being far from the shop. However, after completing the arrival survey and raising our concerns, Reena, the front-of-house manager, immediately resolved the issue. She went above and beyond to make sure we were satisfied, and her responsiveness truly elevated our experience. For future guests, we recommend raising any concerns at reception—they’ll sort everything out without hesitation. Food The buffet food was well-prepared and safe, though the variety was less than expected. The layout during busy times was a bit chaotic, and it would help if starters and mains were better organized. That said, we never went hungry, and the club sandwich at lunch was a standout. The à la carte restaurants, however, were exceptional. Being able to book as often as we wanted was a huge bonus, and the meals were a highlight of our stay. Villa The villa exceeded expectations. The private pool was much larger than it appears in photos, perfect for actual swimming, not just lounging. While ants outside were a minor annoyance, the room was completely bug-free and came equipped with a mosquito repellent machine, which worked well. Hotel Grounds & Amenities The entire property is immaculately clean and beautifully decorated, with a tropical paradise vibe that felt relaxing and luxurious. The cocktails were good, with a decent selection of mainly rum-based options. They weren’t overly strong, but bartenders happily adjusted them when asked. One downside was that Bar 31 wasn’t open, so we had to go downstairs for drinks even if we wanted to sit there. However, the staff’s attentiveness—like bringing cold towels to the bar—made up for this inconvenience. Atmosphere & Entertainment The overall vibe of the hotel is incredibly chilled and laid-back. Everything moves at your own pace, which was perfect for a relaxing getaway. The staff seemed genuinely happy in their work, which added to the positive energy of the place. Evening entertainment featured singers and bands performing a mix of English and French songs, keeping things mellow and enjoyable. Excursions While we didn’t participate in the free excursions, we were impressed with the daily offerings. On another visit, we’d likely try them out. The heat and humidity in January were intense, so we’d probably avoid visiting at this time of year again, but it didn’t detract from the hotel itself. Final Thoughts This hotel is a tropical haven, perfect for relaxation and excellent service. While there were some initial bumps with the mini bar and buffet layout, the staff’s dedication to ensuring guest satisfaction made all the difference. Highly recommended for anyone looking to unwind in a beautiful, serene setting. Read less

We have travelled all over the world visiting many countries and it is rare for us to visit a place in 3 consecutive years, 22,23,24, as we have with the Sunrise Attitude in Mauritius. This adults only hotel suits us in many ways. The location in Belle Mare is great, the hotel stands alone with fields/allotments behind and a tree covered walk and beach in front. There is a road between the hotel and beach but this is a minor inconvenience as the sea is less than 100 yards from the hotel. The hotel offers a limited drinks service on the beach with beds/parasols. The trees behind the beach also offer good shade. The hotel has beautifully planted and well-tended gardens; whilst this is not a large resort (as shown by the room numbers), it is laid out well creating several areas for lounging, socialising, drinking and eating, there are three restaurants , a snack shack and snacks can be ordered at the main bar too There are two large swimming pools with ample loungers and shade, both with adjacent bars. There are four types of room, rooms in small 4 room blocks within the main garden area, a larger three storey block with the ground floor rooms sharing a swim up pool and 8 individual villas each with their own private gardens and pools. We have experienced all types of rooms and they are all attractive and comfortable. The villas have a very large main bedroom. Sea views are limited. The design ethos of the hotel is a rustic/eco vibe making it extremely relaxed and all restaurants/bars are open to the air. The food in the main is very good with a choice of international cuisine but this is Mauritius so there are plenty of Indian dishes too. Much of the fresh food is sourced locally, for example from the allotments behind the hotel. The entertainment has improved over time with some good singers/groups in the Papaya bar. Other daytime activities are offered albeit that we haven’t taken part but there are always a small number of people getting involved. A snorkelling /diving centre is on site and free boat trips offered. On several occasions we have taken a taxi for the day to explore other parts of the island. There is a taxi service outside the hotel. The local town is small and has one or two restaurants (not tried) and a couple of standard tourist shops. What recommends this hotel are the exceptional staff, who are friendly, hospitable and kind; with a great approach to service ; staff turnover is low. The Sunrise Attitude is consistently in the top ten of all hotels in Mauritius on Tripadvisor and is why we have returned so often since its refurbishment in 2021. We will return again (if they will have us!). See you at ‘Sunrise’. Lynn & Michael Vaughan Read less

Would highly recommend this hotel! The way the staff look after their guests is on another level, nothing is too much trouble and everybody is so polite and well mannered. The resort is spotless and well looked and is constantly being maintained to a very high standard. The food, drinks and entertainment are good, theres something going on every night. Would recommend the Social House and Kot Nou but you have to book these at Reception. We would recommend the authentic Mauritian meal at Navin’s parents house, what an experience! the food and company was fabulous. There was five couples, two English, one German, one Dutch and one French, what a lovely bunch of people! Highly recommend this if you get the chance. I think Navins parents open their doors twice a week so don’t hang about! All the staff are fabulous but we would like to thank the following people personally for making our stay so pleasant! Navin, Vicky, Sarita, Sareen and the guys behind the bar at the Papaya! The resort doesn’t have its own beach but don’t let this put you off, it wasn’t a big issue for us and the beach is well looked after and the road isn’t that busy. We had a wonderful time at the Sunrise Attitude and would highly recommend this hotel. Read less
