When you're looking to wander around Fisherman's Wharf trying out the various dining options, enjoy the entertainment on Pier 39, and wander through the shops on Ghirardelli Square - well you couldn't pick a better location for your hotel than the Kimpton Alton. Just a stones thorugh from all of the above, you're also only about 15 minutes walk from San Francisco Bay where you can take the ferry to Alcatraz. Back at the hotel the rooms offer very comfy beds, and cosy vibes that will allow you to relax after a day exploring Golden Gate City. Even better, they offer complimentary tea and coffee to kick start your day, and a complimentary wine and beer hour to wind down at the end of it! Couple that with the option of in-room spa treatments and you really will feel relaxed on this city break. The service on hand at this hotel is indeed top notch - there's even complimentary scooters on hand to use for the little ones to roam the city!

Everyone was very friendly but I wanted to give a special shout out to Mary at the front desk who was so kind in every interaction. Helpful advice, and a friendly smile every time. Thank you Mary!

Retro vibe cannot make up for expensive stay

Okay, not bad, not great. I would not likely stay here again. There was almost no greeting when we arrived, it was basically just "I need your ID and credit card". No warm hello or welcome nor an acknowledgement of being an IHG member. The room was very dark, desperately in need of more lamps or wall sconces. The bed was very comfortable, but…

The bed was very comfortable, but the pillows were AWFUL. They offered no support whatsoever even when doubled up. The bathroom was fairly spacious, and the water pressure was very good. The restaurant was upscale and not really somewhere you'd take the kids. When the DJ played, you could not hear yourself think in the small lobby. I will say the checkout staff at the desk were friendly and helped give a better vibe than the no-nonsense checkin we received. Oh, and $70 a day (plus tipping) to park your car? That really stings. As mentioned on a previous review, I have no idea what the daily activities fee would be used for (riding the elevator?). So, I would say Skip It. There was a Mariott and Mariott Vacations Resort just one block over that likely have more family friendly amenities.
