The hotel

A taste of elite New York living, the residential feel of The New York EDITION sets it apart from your average Manhattan hotel. Inside an historic clocktower, near the Flatiron building and Madison Square Park, its grand interiors are swathed in neutral, warm, ivory and oatmeal. The elegant guestrooms are just as decadent, featuring oversized windows, rain showers, complimentary WiFi, 48” HDTVs, and BEATS Bluetooth speakers. Its spa is reserved exclusively for hotel guests, but there’s no keeping New York’s gastro-aficionados from The Clocktower: with Michelin starred Jason Atherton at the helm, its classic-meets-contemporary British menu is served in three exquisite dining rooms (and the Lobby Bar). The centrepiece of the dining experience is the Gold Bar, with its gilt-framed photos, 3 foot globe chandelier, glistening cocktails, and 24k gold leaf bar ensuring it lives up to its name.

After being a loyal Marriott customer for more than 10 years, I decided to try an Edition hotel by spending one night there. We were able to book a superior king room with a certificate and points since the total amount per night during the month of December was around $1200. Communication was always efficient prior to check-in. When we arrived early in the morning after check-in, we were welcomed, and our room was ready on a decent high floor. When we got to the room, the 245 sq. ft. room had all the basic necessities, modern furniture, and a view of the Empire State Building. The only thing that I did not enjoy was that I kept hitting my head with either the TV or light since it was significantly a small space. We had breakfast in the Clocktower restaurant. It was a great experience with excellent service and delicious food. I noticed that their destination fee of $35 limits usage for the lobby/bar area as you check-in only and a few other limited areas/services during that evening, but cannot be used during the morning or day of checkout, which meant not being able to use this benefit or at least be able to use as a credit in the restaurant for breakfast. Due to my initial experience, especially with the room size, no recognition for an upgrade, and limitations with destination fee credit, I might not be inclined to return to an Edition hotel. However, I credit the staff and location it serves, which is why I give this rating. Ultimately, I would say try it and have your own experience, but as a Titanium Elite member, I will probably consider other Marriott brand hotels soon when staying in NYC. Read less

This review is a little late, so I apologize-- but I couldn't forget to write one simply because of how great my experience was. I am a Marriott Bonvoy member and I love it when staff at the hotel go out of their way to make guests feel welcome (via email) before they even arrive, and that is what Justin did. I work for a record label and travel quite a bit for work, but this trip was for vacation-- and so Justin made sure we had a fantastic room and took such great care of us. I have stayed in probably hundreds of hotel rooms in NYC and this was one of my top 3. A truly BIG room (which is a big deal for Manhattan) with a gorgeous bathroom. Great food for room service. And that amazing hotel smell right when you walk in. Also: most importantly is location, location, location. This is so centrally located and next to one of my favorite parks in NYC. Thank you to Justin who is an incredible asset to Marriott. Cannot wait to come back! Read less

Very average Marriott- not clean - indifferent service- excellent location There are clearly a lot of high tier status Bonvoy guests checking in and so do not expect an upgrade. It would be reasonable to get a clean room though. The hotel suffers from a captive marriott audience and high staff turnover and indifference. The location is excellent… Read more
