Chilled out exploration
St Vincent and the Grenadines are a chain of tiny islands sitting in the middle of the Caribbean Sea, bathed in sunshine and warm waters and fringed with whispering palm trees. Dig your toes into silky-soft sand, discover underwater wonders (ever seen black coral? You will here), and tuck into the freshest seafood you’ll ever taste. Wash it all down with some seriously feisty rum punches, and you’ve got the holiday from heaven.
Holidays in the Grenadines (as the island chain is known) are perfect for chilled-out explorers who love an adventure, but also want a fantastic hotel to relax in at the end of the day.
Explore the Tobago Cays
One of the most stunning places in the Caribbean, the Tobago Cays are a collection of uninhabited islands surrounded by stunning coral reefs, sandy lagoons and crystal-clear waters. Largely free of tourists, this is where you can live out your desert island fantasy. Whether you want to laze the day away on a secluded beach or snorkel with green turtles, you’ll be in awe of the natural beauty around you.
View an active volcano
La Soufriere is the highest peak in St Vincent and a volcano that erupted as recently as April 2021 – its fifth eruption since 1718.
Whilst you can’t currently hike the volcano, you can get some amazing views from land and sea and you can see how it’s impacted the landscape, which is now beginning to recover. Whilst some of the tourist attractions, like hikes and waterfalls, remain inaccessible, the volcano has created some truly stunning views.
Try the local food
Tuck into some local lobster or bite into a banana and you’ll definitely taste the difference as it comes from the land or sea, straight to your plate!
Grab a table on the beach and watch the dolphins play as you sip on the powerful – but delicious - local rum and look out for the roadside BBQs during the weekend for some authentic Caribbean street food.
Channel your inner Jack Sparrow
St Vincent and the Grenadines has been home to many swashbuckling pirates over the centuries, but did you know that Pirates of the Caribbean was also filmed here? Take a guided tour of all the movie locations or go for a dive where you might find historic shipwrecks, or even a few doubloons!
If you’re a first-time diver, ask your accommodation provider for details on PADI-approved lessons to get your open water certificate.
Sail the days away
Fancy a bit of island hopping? There are 32 beautiful and unique islands to discover making sailing in St Vincent and the Grenadines an absolute must. From clear blue seas and luscious landscapes to hidden caves and black volcanic beaches, you can see it all from a shared or private yacht.
Rub shoulders with royals in Mustique
Mustique in the Grenadines was Princess Margaret’s favourite holiday spot for many years and if you’re a fan of The Crown, you’ll already know how gorgeous this island is. Whilst only 2.2 sq miles in size, this exclusive private island is the height of luxury and regularly plays host to plenty of famous faces. You can even gallop along the sands on horseback for a real dreamlike experience.
