The hotel

An enchanting island paradise, once the home of a Carib Indian chief according to legend, Young Island is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Virtually a tropical garden, it consists of 13 acres, home to giant almond, mango, coffee and breadfruit trees. At the heart of it all is Young Island Resort overlooking a beautiful stretch of golden sand. Here, hammocks hang under thatched roofs and the cooling trade winds are ever constant. As is only right when residing on a Caribbean island, non-motorised water sports are offered, including kayaking, pedal boards and dinghy sailing. Just offshore is the Coconut Bar where drinks are served in fresh coconuts — you can swim there and back. Dining at Young Island is a truly romantic experience with meals taken under thatched gazebos near the beach. A sumptuous four-course meal is prepared six nights a week by award-winning chefs with fresh seafood always on the menu. Saturday’, you'll enjoy a barbecue and buffet dinner with steel band music. Each meal offers six loaves of freshly baked bread — white, coconut, banana, raisin, cinnamon and wholewheat — it’s a real treat and one they are justly famous for. A fabulous freshwater swimming pool is perfect for cooling dips and there is tennis available during the day. Spacious, cottage style accommodation is either close to the beach or on a hillside with breathtaking panoramic views.

After an exhausting volunteer assignment on Mayreau, we had time to relax for a week on Young Island. We were spoilt by an extremely friendly team and received a generous upgrade to the best category. The week on Young Island was perfect, thank you so much, your generosity has overwhelmed us!

My wife and I stayed at Young Island for 3 delightful nights. I'll give bullet points in no particular order -The ferry to the shore runs reliably 24 hours a day. Easy to manage and it takes 5 minutes to cross. Its like taking the elevator in a tall hotel. Cute little covered gondola that probably seats 10 people. -The loud music from the club across the water occurs on Friday and Saturday nights. It is loud and gets very loud at like 2 or 3 in the morning. I found it funny in a cultural way. It all depends on your outlook on life. -The resort grounds are well maintained, for the most part. Its a boutique resort, not Sandals. Its got a homey, tropical atmosphere. Its got history. Its got steps. My wife thinks it's kitschy in a good way. Beautiful flowers and the sound of tree frogs at night. -Our room was very nice - cottage like, clean, well painted, lighted, attractive, beachy furniture. Refrigerator. Outlets. Ceiling fan. AC. Nice patio with privacy yet with great views of the shore. -The very large walk in outdoor shower is great. You can enter from the patio or the bathroom. Its really spacious and private. -The king size bed had nice sheets but I lost feeling in my arms and hands each night. I guess it was firm. -The staff are truly special, like everyone in SVG. So kind, helpful, sincere. We met a few locals and told them we were staying Young Island and they seemed to approve. It is well respected and supported. -Food was better than expected. We ended up having dinner at Young all 3 nights and the food got better each night. I think the food is better than almost everywhere else in St Vincent with maybe the exception of Four Shells down the street, which we never made it to because it was closed both times we tried to go. The Saturday night bbq buffet was good. The best part was the steel band that played nonstop for 3 hours. They were really good. We got room service one night and the food was really tasty and delivery was prompt. Breakfasts were filling and very tasty - Carribbean breakfast includes fish, doughboys, plantain. Coffee is hot and good! Flambe'd coconut french toast was good and a visual show. Eating by the beach doesnt get any better. -The bar is cozy and appealing. We tested Pina Coladas throughout SVG and Young's was by far the best. We ate dinner at the bar one night after an exhausting but thrilling hike to the Soufriere volcano. -The location is great. There are restuants across the water. Its about 15 minutes by taxi to downtown Kingstown. -The beach is small - maybe 50 yards - but the sand is clean and the water is nice. There is a band of corral debris that you have to walk through which gives it an authentic beach character. Its not an exotic beach but it will definitely cure what ails you. There is bar in the water but it was closed while we were there. Not quite peak season. -The pool is tucked away in a beautiful tropical forest. We swam in it once while it was raining. No bar. -We hiked up to the tennis courts and for the view of the fort across the channel. Something to do. -It felt very nice to return to Young Island after spending the day on St Vincent - safe, comfortable, welcoming, homey. A haven. -We went scuba diving with Dive St Vincent which is directly across the water where the ferry goes. Good dive shop and better diving than we were told. -Prices for food and beverage are more than reasonable. A very positive experience. Read less

Image of the Tripadvisor rating Best place to eat in St Vincent!!! By a mile

This place has the best food in St Vincent. Fresh bread baked by them everything is so reach of flavours. And the fruit punch really tastes like fruits and not chemicals. Stuff is also lovely, there a non stop little boat to take you to the island. Perfect to stop by if you travelling to and from Bequia. You can stay overnight or just a day pass.
